: This seems to be related to changing hormone levels before the period , especially an increase in  progesterone compared to oestrogen, a decrease in serotonin level and a slight elevation in body temperature with decreased melatonin levels. Stress management , cutting back on salt and sugar , caffeine and alcohol  all seem to help .Sometimes hormonal contraceptives and antidepressants are advised.

i feel very edgy heart skipping anxiety and insomnia 10d before period. on mirena (levonorgestrel) for 3 mo now, no period but still pms. what can i do to calm down ?

Therapy?: Have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as anxiety or depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room.

This may have to do: with fluctuating levels of estrogen &amp; progesterone which affect neurochemicals like serotonin and dopamine. Let your doctor know.

Female hormones: Before we have our periods, our female hormones - estrogen and Progesterone - drop. Less estrogen can mean less energy. Less Progesterone can mean less sleep.

Ambien (zolpidem): You Q. was cut off, but it appears that the 5mg. is not helping with sleep, so ask your doctor for possible adjustment back to 10mg.

Please see a gyn: for evaluation to R/O possible causes like endometriosis ,or hormone causes and the gyn can do a pelvic ultrasound to look at the pelvic organs
