Get it checked out: I would see a doctor asap.  It could be infected, and one of the most common causes of such infections is mrsa- a resistant staph.  In the meantime, wash you hands well after touching that area (best not to touch it if you can help it).  Best of luck to you.

hi.  my son, 16, was playing with friends and got hit in the nose.  it has definitely shifted to the left, not sore, but a little swollen.  happened 3 days ago but i was only informed today?

Doctor can examine: Skin inflammation or a rash is hard to describe in words or visualize from words. One's primary care doctor can examine to see what the problem might be. Redness and swelling can be from an infection, allergic reaction, bug bite, but in a person in her mid-60's, skin cancer is another consideration. Otolaryngology visit: I would Imagine that you have allergies. Possibly a prescription for allergies will be helpful. I would advise a visit to a PCP.

Vestibulitis: Can be associated with a dry nose, picking inside, scratching inside, or using q-tips inside the nose. You can get a low grade bacterial colonization of the hairs inside the nasal skin(vestibule). This can cause internal irritation and the outside can get red and swollen. See an ENT for treatment, usually with ointments and antibiotics. However, other problems need to be ruled out.

Infected nostril: I assume youre talking about the side of  the nose and nostril, not the inside.  If the swelling is in the soft flexible side of the nose it is probably an infected hair follicle or, gland inside the nostril. These are tender and can create redness and swelling. Try Bacitracin ointment two times daily applied inside the nostril under the sore area until gone.  May need oral antibiotics if no better.

i got a bump on the left side of my upper lateral cartilage on my nose, it's swollen and sore , is it broken?

Trauma?: If you have sustained trauma, there's a very good chance that it's broken. If not, I'd be thinking infection.
