Dermatologist: Try vaseline and keep it limited to the outside of your lip and use a minimal amount.   You might want to check with a dermatologist regarding possible allergies and other suggestions.

Sounds like Infectio: You should see a Board-Certified Gynecologst,  You probably have an infection of the vulva or vagina (an infection of the cerix is a long shot),  The fact that you don't have burning makes a bladder or urethral infection unlikely but not impossible.  Whether or not "dirty hands played a role is debatable--your menstrual blood should bd sterile.

It's hard to say why: But I am trying to imagine what you are asking..& i think the reason might be that your gums in between your teeth (called papillae) are receded down, therefore you are involuntarily  suctioning  ur lower lip when your mouth /lips are closed, & since your inner lips /mucosa is movable and moldable,  if fills in those papillary spaces...Just a guess.. But if u see ur dentist he/she can see better.

Possible trauma: Many times chronic low grade microtrauma can cause torn lower lip outside lower front teeth. Either edges of upper teeth are rubbing or airway problem, loss of back teeth causing over closure, lip sucking habit, placement of tobacco. Many reason. Look for the cause.

Size, Location...: It is hard to tell without seeing its size, and its location ; duration, etc.  With that being said, the lip contains many small glands that secrete fluid, and when the fluid gets clogged, it may cause a boil-like swelling. This may rupture then disappear, or continue to swell and may become uncomfortable.  Keep the area clean and see a dentist to get it checked.

2-3 days: In 2-3 days swelling will start to go down.  Should be a little less every day after that.  Did you discuss this with your Dentist?  Were you given instructions about compresses?  Were you given anti-inflammatories?
