i have a vial of multi dose lidocaine, dont ask how, can i drip it directly onto a broken tooth instead of injecting it. it burns pretty bad when injected without cutting it last i remember so didnt want that burn in my face?

: Don't bother, it doesn't work in that manner. What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Pain relief? See a dentist before the pain becomes unbearable.

Different places : Injections are usually placed next to the tooth that the dentist wants to treat.  This type of injection is called an infiltration.  Another type of injection is called a nerve block.  This is when the dentist injects the anesthetic in close proximity to a particular nerve.  This usually  results in a larger area of the jaw being numb.

Various: While IV lidocaine can slow heart rate in sufficient dose, the amount used in dental anesthesia is FAR LESS, and little if any problem would result in most cases should this occur. The dentist was trained and should,be able,to tell,if the needle isn’t where it supposed to be BEFORE the injection is given. Hope this  provides some relief from fears.

Mouth: Yes however if the tenderness persists more than 2 days return to the dentist for evaluation of the area. This  tenderness is an uncommon occurrence.

Be careful: you most probably had a reaction to the epinephrine or it was injected into a blood vessel. In any event make sure you tell anyone working on you and they want to give you an anesthetic injection tell them what happened and insist they use a different anesthetic besides lidocaine with epinephrine. There are plenty other choices

: No. If you have implants or pills and are using them as directed this procedure has no significant effect on the way BC works.

Find out why: Its not a normal condition for your gums to be numb. I'm not sure about the question regarding the lidocaine. If you are having some kind of tooth pain and trying to place Lidocaine on the teeth to treat pain, i suggest you get to a dentist right away to diagnose the real problem and suggest the proper treatment. Numbing a painful area in your mouth is only treating the symptoms. I hope that helps.

Common Procedure: Novocaine or Lidocaine are one of several types of local anesthetics administered to anesthetize or numb the areas where the teeth are to be removed.  Many patients have wisdom teeth surgery just with local anesthesia and do well.  You will be able to feel the sensation of pressure and be fully aware of the procedure, but should not feel any pain (sharp sensation).

No: You need to be immediately examined by a dentist. An internal infection may be putting pressure on your nerves. Failure to treat can result in permanent damage.

Accepted Answer

: There are a limited number of medications that can trigger this genetic condition. None are in routine  use for simple dental extractions. Novacaine and lidocaine are not listed in this group. I would let the dentist know your history but would relax for now. There are ways to test to see if you have the gene that makes you at risk of MH that you could discuss with your doc.
