Not rare: Myositis ossificans can occur with any muscle injury that produces an inflammatory response. It often occurs and resolves without us knowing it. The more severe ones are associated with bigger injuries, so we follow them more closely. Since it is not harmful, we encourage stretching and rest to give it a chance to resolve or play its course.

Atrophic myositis: Masticatory muscle myositis (mmm) is an inflammatory disease in dogs affecting the muscles of mastication (chewing). It is also known as atrophic myositis or eosinophilic myositis. Mmm is the most common inflammatory myopathy in dogs. The disease mainly affects large breed dogs.

Most Unlikely!: Whoever DX you could probably answer that for you.
I don't know that being one of the inheritable diseases. It sounds like you inflammation of your lower back muscles!

Usually low: The formation of bone in muscle is uncommon. It usually follows a deep contusion (bruise) of the muscle. It this case it would be a blow to the front of the thigh. It can also follow severe head injury.

borderline positive anti-jo-1 during routine checkup as part of ulcerative colitis. also positive for atypical x-anca. no clinical symptoms of myositis. chest-xray, cpk, pft, esr , crp all normal. wondering what could be the reason for anti-jo-1?

: A form of autoimmune disease should be considered. A consultation with GI and Rheumatologist may be helpful.

Costochondritis: Pain/inflammation of the cartilage of the chest wall (specifically where the ribs attach to the breastbone) is called 'costochondritis'.  'tietze's syndrome' is another term for pain originating from the ribs/cartilage.

if my lupus was in remissino (no inflammation present), would i still get muscle & pleuritic chest pain) tapering below 5mg?is inflamm cause of pain?

Accepted Answer

No: If lupus is in remission you should not have symptoms of the disease and you should be able to taper off prednisone.  It is very common to have Fibromyalgia with lupus.  This may cause your chest pain and muscle pain.  It requires a different treatment.  Your rheumatologist can help you sort this out.

MRI best: An MRI is usually the best test to look for muscular and spinal abnormalities.  The details and physics of MRI are complicated, but basically use magnetic energy with or without intravenous contrast to "see" the details of the tissue under the skin. It is different from traditional "x-rays". Hope this helps!

is it possible to tell the difference between a muscle strain or something in the chest and lung pain/inflammation?

Oftentimes no: Symptoms related to strain in the chest muscles and inflammation in the linings of the lungs/pleurisy are similar and over-lapping. Both will present with pain on deep breathing. One distinct difference is that the former will elicit pain when you apply pressure on the chest wall while the latter won't.
Chest pain related to heart condition usually occurs in older folks with risk factors.
