Depends: Everything you do carries some amount of risk.  If you spleen is inflamed and swollen then blunt trauma to the spleen could cause a surgical emergency.  Now the chances of this happening while riding a bike are low, it still could happen.  If you have something like mono that is causing it then you shouldn't over exert yourself either.

Cold pack better: Heat often increases blood flow to an area, which might make the spleen tend to enlarge even more (and usually hurt more at minimum). Cold pack (wrap it to prevent skin injury) likely better relief w/o this risk. Be gentle until swelling down due to rupture risk & follow closely w/your dr.

: I not aware of an inflamed spleen. It can become congested or enlarged by response to infections such as mononucleosis or malignancy or by bleeding into it from injury or by cirrhosis of the liver.

Full exam: You should have a complete medical exam at a clinic as soon as possible. Although your symptoms could be due to a virus for which only supportive treatment helps you could also have other types of infections such as bacterial which can be treated with antibiotics. Also other diseases such as cancer could cause similiar symptoms. The sooner you are properly diagnosed the better.

COUGH, LOW GRADE: Fever, diminished appetite are signs of viral infection. I assume, the pediatrician mentioned some inflammation of 'lung', not spleen. As long as he is drinking well, not to worry. If not better in 5-7 days, or any worsening, check with the pediatrician.
Tip: to get more accurate answer, mention country/ city/region/race, etc. (splenic enlargement is common in sickle cell disease/african race, etc).

Mono: Mono takes a long time to recover from but I do not think you would still have any abdominal swelling. If this persists I would let your dr have a look

Good idea.: If your white blood count and platelet count have been persistently elevated with no obvious reason, it is a good idea to seek the opinion of a hematologist. If the "inflammatory issues" persist, a visit to see a rheumatologist may be useful also. Good luck.

my dad has recently gone to hospital with vomiting and abdominal pain. they have found an inflamed spleen and have yet to determine a cause. he has had diarrhoea for about 5 days. any advice to control symptoms?

: An infection affecting the colon will have to be ruled out first and before using antidiarrheals, stool studies are obtained and iv hydration is used. Spleen is likely inflamed in response to the infection. Talk to his treating team in order to clarify.
