Poss halo nevus: could be early development of a halo nevus....or something more serious. would advise seeing dermatologist for eval and poss bx

i picked at a preexisting mole on my shoulder, and now it is inflamed and darker, and the skin around it is red. is this something to be concerned about? or was it probably just from picking at it. also, it didnt itch or hurt before?

Accepted Answer

: I'm sure you realize it's not advisable to pick at any skin lesion. It does appear that you caused irritation/inflammation to occur. Observe for spreading redness which would indicate infection. Otherwise when all the irritation subsides, if your skin doesn't look perfectly normal or level at the site of the original lesion, have a physician or dermatologist examine and advise you.

i rubbed off a mole and all that is left is a very dark spot that is darker than the rest of my skin . the spot has still been there although its been a year. could this be post inflammatory pigmentation?

: If indeed this was a mole, and not some other superficial skin growth, and the area remains dark, I suggest that you have the lesion examined by a dermatologist, and possibly bxed to r/o any sig  pathology. Although Post inflam pigmentation is possible, it's better to be sure of this dx with a visit to your doc.

Yes: Even though you are young, a changing mole should be evaluated by a doctor.

i have a small, flat 1mm mole on my elbow, where i also have eczema. when my eczema flares up and i itch it, the mole looks inflamed. it also sometimes develops "crust" over it but then clears up. there is redness around the mole. should i be worried?

: It is difficult to tell whether this is just eczema that is out of control or if there is another problem developing, just based on your description. Your primary doctor or a dermatologist would be able to give you better advice after they see the encrusted area. Good luck.

after sunburn, 5 yr old's moles on his neck had black specks in them. now red and inflamed. grandpa had melanoma. ?

Get skin checked: The redness and inflammation could be due to  sun burn. However, given the new finding of "black specks" and a family history of melanoma, a visit to the dermatologist is warranted.

my daughter is experiencing  a mole that has been under her left arm pit along the bra line since she was a little girl. it became inflamed recently with pus on top of it. i can provide a picture.

Not here: This public HT site offers medical advice on general questions. It is not a chat room and does not have any feature that allows us to see pictures. All we can assess is the info you describe in your post. As a general response, when simple moles become troublesome, like in belt or bra lines you  can have them removed. An infection  might push this as more necessary. Some GP's or a dermatologist

i developed a halo mole after a sun burn my dermatologist took a biopsy and told me that it was a non acidic nemus heavily inflamed they recomended that it be removed how long can i wait to have this procedure done?

Go ahead: It's your call, but if your dermatologist thinks it's nasty enough to come off, i'll defer to him/her. It can be hard to tell a very inflamed halo nevus from a malignant melanoma -- it could perhaps be a wolf in sheep's clothing. Whenever she says it's time, off it comes -- and congratulations on being a good observer of your body and  a proactive patient.

had a small pink papule on my back. derm looked at it with dermascopy and said it looked like a normal inflamed mole. biopsy came back as a lichen planus keratosis. does this make sense even though dermascope said it was a mole?

Yes: histological bx is the major determining factor. question is...if dermoscopy revealed a benign lesion, it's curious that it was  even biopsied and not just followed up on subsequent visits?
