Revision surgery: She will require antibiotics for at least six weeks, followed by a second hip replacement surgery called a revision.

Jest couple of wks: Check with your orthopedic surgeon ,  usually they do not replace hip  soon after some other surgery for fear infection from first surgery to the hip joint. .

Infections: Joint replacement infections occur at an infrequent but established rate in all hospitals between 0.5% -2%. Acute infections get surgical opening and washouts and bearing changes with 6 weeks of IV antibiotics then oral antibiotics. Common bacteria is staph aureous and streptococcus.

since i just had a total hip replacement  jan 11 of this year. do i still have to be worried about  having a urinary tract infection with my new hip?

Only if Previous UTI: You are not at an increased risk of UTI now after hip replacement.  If your concern is seeding the hip with bacteria from a kidney infection the risk is exceedingly low.  If you had recurrent infections before surgery make sure that you are evaluated to try and prevent further episodes.  Common treatments are increased water consumption, cranberry juice, preventive antibiotics, vaginal estrogen.

See your surgeon: This is potentially serious complication that needs to be treated by your surgeon.  Depending on how long it has been present, this may require a surgery to wash out the joint, or removal of the joint, followed by weeks of antibiotics.

Yes: But it would be very unusual.  Infections of a hip replacement can usually be treated successfully with surgery and antibiotics.

Accepted Answer

: Yes, it can happen a couple months after the surgery. 
Furthermore, the bacteria can be seeding to the artificial joint when you have a mild infection with transient bacteremia  (bacteria in your blood).
Infection if the hip (septic arthritis) will cause fever, joint pain, redness, swelling and deformity.
Flossing or using Waterpik very less likely cause transient bacteremia.

Complication are : Infrequent.Infection a small number of people can develop an infection with a total hip replacement this complication can require further surgery to remove the prosthetic components and clean out the joint along with a course of antibiotics lasting six to eight weeks
 the incidence of nerve injury o-3% in primary total hip arthroplasty most common the sciatic nerve but the femoral, obturator also.

should having a prostate infection stop me from going ahead with a total hip replacement surgery?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Before any implant surgery, all evidence of infection should be cleared.  A mild prostatitis without fevers or bacteria in the urine should clear with antibiotics and not delay surgery.  A raging infection with fevers, bacteria in the urine and blood must be treated with major antibiotics to prevent seeding of the new joint.
