Extra cautious?: I think the pediatrician is just being extra cautious. Even with "internal" infection, your friend could have staph on skin or in the environment in her home. OTOH, we're all exposed to staph. Other friends, you, and your family could have it at any time, and sooner or later your baby will be exposed to it. The doc may just want to avoid particularly heavy exposure until more mature immune system.

Maybe: It depends on the type of surgery and type of anesthesia, to answer your question. By definition, labyrinthitis is an inflammation (swelling) of the labyrinth (inner ear). As such, labyrinthitis causes hearing loss (typically in one ear) and dizziness. If you are having dizziness without hearing loss, then you do not have labyrinthitis.

Surgery Infection: Depends on depth and type of spinal surgery.  If superficial, maybe only antibiotics. With a deeper infection, opening and draining any localized infection including removal of instrumentation and fusion bone followed by 6-8 weeks of IV therapy maybe required.  Please review with your surgeon for more detail.

Good broad spectrum: Antibiotic,  the chance of c diff is equal to taking other antibiotics. 500mg is not a big dose and therefore risk of c diff less with this doseage.

Reevaluation: The Most likely possibilities are that you have ITB syndrome that has failed conservative care, or that the pain is coming from something else, such as a pinched nerve in the back.  If you have not had one, an MRI of the lumbar spine as well as the hip itself would likely confirm the diagnosis.  Don't hesitate to seek a second opinion to get a fresh set of eyes to look at you as well.

This is serious: Infection after insertion of hardware can mean the hardware must be removed, leaving your fracture in a bad position. A bone infection puts your entire leg at risk. You'll need IV antibiotics and perhaps even more surgery. Please discuss this with your surgeon asap.

Needs evaluation: If you had a major abdominal surgery and things have not yet returned to normal - this absolutely needs getting checked out. Preferably by the doctors that did the surgery in the first place, since they know exactly what went on and how your body is. There can be post-operative complications like 'abscess formation' that could take weeks to months later to 'appear'. Hope you take action TODAY.
