i have had a copper iud since my abortion. i now have heartburn every day and i spotted after my period. could i be pregnant?

Possible: Iuds do not provide 100% effectiveness.  Hopefully you had a sting check 6 weeks after placement to confirm you didn't expel it.  In addition, i won't usually use a copper iud in women your age because of the higher std risk.  Even married women under age 25 have a higher than usual rate of stds.  Check a pregnancy test and see a gynecologist.

how can i treat indigestion?

Accepted Answer

Small light meals: First, try eating small, frequent meals.  Avoid soda due to the carbonation, which will make you full faster.  If you still have indigestion or heartburn, you can try an antacid like tums (calcium carbonate). If it persists, you should talk to your doctor about other options.

Depends on details: If it's heartburn, a patient can try antacids like Maalox, Mylanta, or Tums. There are also acid-blocking medications like Pepcid (famotidine). However, such symptoms may be other things instead of simple reflux. The patient could have esophagitis, stomach cancer, H. pylori infection, heart disease, etc... So, it's best to have a doctor evaluate, and if it's still heartburn, the doctor can help.

Bland diet: Stay on a bland diet for 5-7 days. Stay away from greasy and fried foods.

Accepted Answer

No: Mild to moderate indigestion is common in pregnancy because of the hormones of pregnancy and the pressure on the stomach from the growing uterus.  Avoid fatty foods.  Avoid onions, tomatoes and garlic.  Allow at least three to four hours between your last meal for the night and when you go to bed.

Tums, (calcium carbonate)the antacid.: Tums (calcium carbonate) are very cheap and work very well.Also a great source of calcium.

Dyspepsia : The most common causes of indigestion are eating too much or too fast, Acid Reflux, gastritis, gastric ulcer, Functional dyspepsia (motility problem of stomach). Dyspepsia is common among patients with UC. Also Gluten sensitivity is common among patients with UC which may cause Dyspepsia. 
Talk to your Gasteroenterologist.

Abdominal symptoms: Usually, acid indigestion causes symptoms of abdominal pain, heart burn, increased burping or belching, acid taste in the mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and other symptoms.  Additionally, acid indigestion may also occur without any symptoms.  Best to see your doctor if you are experiencing these symptoms, or if you are concerned.

Indigestion: For heart burn there are many over the counter products and your pharmacist can guide you. However in 41 year person, if the problem is persistent , then see gastroenterologist for egd. Also what you think is heartburn, may be due to heart.See your doctor.  Ginger ale, mint, green tea and Prilosec otc  are good for indigestion.  J.

acid indigestion is causing my extreme hunger. what can i do?

Need effective rx: Many patients need chronic therapy like Nexium (esomeprazole) daily  pts often take it when they think they need it . The food is your bodies way of trying to buffer the acid. It doesnt take care of the underlying problem. Untreated or inadequate treatment can lead to a barrets esophagus and possble cancer. Not to mention food can lead to obesity and more relux.
