Location: In trigger point therapy, the physician finds tender points in the muscle and injects them. In prolotherapy, the physician injects around ligaments to strengthen them.

Relaxes the area: There are many ways of trigger point therapy. One is just applying pressure over those areas with fingers, knuckels, or with devices ( gun like or ballpoint like). Also those areas may be injected wtih small doses of cortisone with local anesthesia ( xylocaine (lidocaine) or marcaine) and with muscle relaxants like diazepam or alike and even with antiinflamatories like toradol. This tx relaxes the area.

Scoliosis &amp; pain: Scoliosis often causes pain in the muscles of the back due to the asymmetric stress of the curvature. This may be in the form of myofascial pain with trigger points that may respond to injection of local anesthetic followed by stretching. Scoliosis may also produce spasm that may respond to the application of ice, medications such as cyclobenzaprine or injection of Botulinum toxin.

Sciolosis: This may only help local symptoms of muscle spasm or pain but would not change the spinal curvature at all.

Urethra  pain: has many causes.  Has a urologist evaluated you? Are you sure it is CPPS, chronic pelvic pain synd?  Has a  kidney ultrasound  and cystoscopy been performed?

Possibly.: I agree with seeing a physiatrist for this condition.  I would go online and check the stony brook hospital and st. Charles hospital (port jefferson) sites to help find a physiatrist.  They can help determine the best course of care.

Sometimes: Continue to try PT .  Sometimes cryotherapy will work.  If it is in the highly vascular space, sometimes a trigger point injection can be done with ultrasound guidance

Tried acupuncture?: Understand that you have had trigger point injections and  physical therapy.  Acupuncture can quite often be successful with this.

A few treatments : Now try to learn stretching and McKenzie back exercises.  Might try swimming several times weekly.  RED CORD PT program if available

i have a herniated disc in my neck c4-5. the ortho dr is urging me to have an epidural or at the least trigger point shots. the chiro is saying no. is physical therapy good for this or adjustments?

No right answer: If it comes to surgery generally speaking  necks do a good bit better than  low backs do
