Needs diagnostic wor: Rigidity ( stiffness, lack of movement ?) in the area of your toes can be an indication of joint dysfunction. At your age, this seems unusual.  HAve you incurred injury? Dos arthritis run in your family?  This probably need to be worked up professionally.

i have horizontal ridges on only one toe--the left big toe. what might cause this? polycythemia? crohn's?

Beau's lines: Beau's lines are deep grooved lines that run from side to side on the fingernail or the toenail. They may look like indentations or ridges in the nail plate.  There are several causes of Beau's lines.  This may be caused by an infection or problem in the nail fold, where the nail begins to form, or it may be caused by an injury to that area.  They may be a sign of an illness of the body.

there's an indentation across the middle of the nail on my big toe and a one in the corner of my other big toe?

Many reasons: There are many reasons for indentations and lines on the nails, but the most common cause is trauma.  Injuring the nail bed especially at the base of the nail can cause temporary and permanent ridges or indentations.  I recommend you see a podiatrist to have them evaluated if they are not improving.

Trauma: The toenail probably broke because you traumatized it. This can occur from a direct blow or from microtrauma from playing some sport. The ridges on the nail are an indication that you may be chronically traumatizing your toenail. The new nail will grow out but may be slightly deformed. You should probably let the podiatrist take a look.

: This may be the start of a new nail. Nail grows is dalayed about 30 days and then the new nail is not smooth 
Gradually growth returns to normal as long as the germinal and sterile matrix has not been damaged

: There is nothing to be concerned about. Your big toes experienced some type of micro trauma those causing a disruption to the matrix or root cells. The clear area proximally means the trauma has now been stopped. Nothing to be concerned with. The nail will slowly grow out
