had hemorrhoidectomy 5 days ago. became impacted 2 days ago. impaction resolved on its own in bathroom of er waiting room and on call surgeon told me i could go home. since then, i've had diarrhea and some dark red blood in stool. is this normal?

Trust they looked. Irf not you or someone can look. Take a picture and show to Dr.  If they did not look shame on them.

Best to see your Dr.: This is done by 4 main methods.  Fecal immunochemical testing that uses antibodies to detect globin, stool guaiac test for fecal occult blood which involves reaction of stool to hydrogen peroxide, fecal porphyrin quantification or hemoquant which measures hemoglobin, and fecal dna test/the pregen-plus which measures dna.  It would be wise to check with your doctor and get tested accurately.

Fecal Impaction occurs when constipation is taken to an extreme and hard poop fills the lower intestinal tract, colon and rectum with no movement. There is always poop traveling through normally active intestines. When it gets to the rectum, at a certain mass, wall motility typically causes it to be pushed out.

: It's true that liquid feces can leak out around a fecal impaction, but it's characteristic to have urge for a BM with associated abdominal cramping which can be severe. Abdominal distension my also be present.  Impactions require manual removal by a health professional if soap suds enemas aren't successful.
