Growth: IGF1 is the effector protein of growth hormone.  rhIGF1 just means it is synthetic.  IGR IR3 is an analog, which should work the same way.  The most important question is why is this being given, and has the proper work-up been done.  Is there GH or IGF1 deficiency?  If not, is this just being done to (maybe) add 2 cm in height?  See a Pediatric Endocrinologist.

Depends on patient: What sort of meaning a particular igf-1 level has depends on all the other issues that a patient has. A number is just a number. The endocrinologist can take into account the whole situation and help decide the next step. Low igf-1 can be due to gh deficiency, insensitivity to gh, reduced pituitary function, anorexia nervosa or other nutritional deficiencies, chronic liver or kidney disease, etc..

Growth: IGF-1 is one of the main "growth hormones" and is stimulated by pituitary growth hormone.  During adolescence, the levels of IGF-1 are higher than at other times.  A very high IGF-1 can occur due to acromegaly, which is a pituitary tumor making excess GH, but this is very rare.  A pediatric endocrinologist is the expert on this.

Probably not: The igf level is in the low normal range for age, and highly dependent upon time of day and other factors. Don't know why your doc would have been drawing an igf level at your age without having other abnormal lab prior to checking igf. Ask your doctor why.

Haven't heard of it: When reading such research papers, one should ask questions such as:  which milk products (there are thousands or more), who were the test subjects, who were the control subjects (did not receive the test products), how many people were tested (the more the better), how much were the igf-1 levels affected, etc...  Sometimes research papers have trustworthy results; othertimes not at all.

Not so simple: The regulation of IGF1 is more complex than just GH levels.  Diet/weight loss and inadequate nutrition is well known to lower IGF1.  GH levels spike in the AM, but with age GH levels are low, and there is not much you can do to elevate them.  Exercise, stress reduction, weight maintenance are all good, but not necessarily related to GH.

Screening test: Igf-1 is a screening test which if high screens for gigantism-acromegaly. Since it is a screening test, the abnormal values should be the ones taken into consideration. Perhaps there is a communication problem with your physician but this needs to be addressed between you or in a consult.

Human vs synthesized: rhIGF-1 protein is synthetic, made in E. coli bacteria and sometimes yeast that have been modified in the lab to have the gene for human IGF-1, enabling them to produce IGF-1. Plain IGF-1 protein is endogenous, coming from humans, but this is not used nearly as much anymore as the rhIGF-1 (trade name is Increlex).
