Old blood: As blood ages it becomes brown. Just means it bled one day ago vs now.

Accepted Answer

Not Pregnant: Having a period represents not being pregnant. Pregnancy testing is best done when one has missed a period and could be pregnant.  It is always okay to take a pregnancy test, but in your situation, your test will be negative because you are not pregnant.

can the copper iud lessen your period? i have had it for almost 6months with heavy periods but this month is only spotting.

Accepted Answer

Generally no: The copper IUD generally does not affect the menstrual cycle. In some cases it can make it a little heavier with more cramping. Hopefully this light period you are experiencing will continue instead of your first 6 months of heavy periods.

Bleeding ?'s: Cramping and heavy periods after a sterilization may occur if your birth control method prior to the procedure was oral bcp's.  Other abnormalities such as fibroids, uterine polyps , etc., can cause this , so ask your gyn physician for an exam and pelvic ultrasound to evaluate the cause.

Unfortunately....: This is not possible naturally with the exception of becoming pregnant.  Hormonal therapy a la birth control pills can be very effective in controlling this problem.

ive prescribed provera 10 mg to delay my period. its a once off prescription because im getting married and have heavy periods. what side effects can i expect? and how severe would they be if its once off and for a short period of time.

Provera use: Provera is a synthetic progesterone that will allow the endometrium to continue to maintain its secretory phase during its use. Once it is completed the endometrium will shed and the period may be slightly heavier than usual. The effects of the medication will terminate at that point with no long term effects. Consult with your GYN MD who provided the Rx for confirmation of this response/questions

: The greater proportion of them are benign. The issue is you have had it evaluated; and even because of the dangers of the heavy periods could have it removed so they could ascertain that it is not cancer. However it is unlikely to be cancer, it would reassure you when removed and may have less trouble with your menstrual flows.

Change in hormones: Loosing weight usually affects your menstrual cycle in a positive way.  Often times if you are overweight, when you loose weight it will allow for regular ovulation and thus regular periods. However in some patients rapid weight loss can lead to anovulation or where you don't release an egg and your periods space out and become more irregular.

Cycles can vary: Menstrual cycles can vary, even if not under stress.That can make "natural family planning" a challenge.   If you are sexually acitve and do not wish to become pregnant please use condoms or spermicide.

Could be: Stress can do unbelievable things and create a problem out of nowhere. If you have been feeling any pain or discomfort then i  recommend going to see a doctor so that they can help you with your symptoms. In the meantime drink plenty of water and do some activities that will lower your stress, for example: yoga.
