i recently had a uti and it was treated with antibiotics. im still experiencing irritation in the urethra and bladder. feels bad a lot after eating. im drinking nothing but water. doctor said its no longer a uti. ?

Urethra: sounds like you're having primarily symptoms associated with irritation of your urethra. A common cause for this after a course of antibiotics would be a fungal problem. It is possible that you UTI with a urethritis to begin with.

i keep getting utis. can it be treated without using antibiotics?

Yes no : First thing you do is to drink plenty of fluids. It may help your symptoms of uti. You need to see a doctor to make sure that you do have UTI by having a urine culture done , if the urine culture  is positive then you must take antebiotics  however in many cases there are symptoms of UTI but the culture is negative then you don't have to take any antibiotics.

Use antibiotics: I am sure that every UTI throughout history was not treated with antibiotics and somehow we survive. The risk of not treating is substantial as kidneys can be damaged permanently or infection can spread to the blood making us critically ill. Cranberry juice and increased fluids may help but get on antibiotics when you really need them, like with a uti.

Depends: If you do not have any symptoms there may not be a need to re do the culture.  If it needs to be repeated, one to two weeks after stopping the antibiotics would be appropriate.

Accepted Answer

No: You should not and cannot prescribe antibiotics to yourself.  A physician has to do this.  Also, the doctor has to actually diagnose you with a urinary tract infection.  Different antibiotics kill different kinds of bacteria.  So a physician will be able to help determine what kind of antibiotic is appropriate.

i had uti 6 weeks ago and was treated with antibiotics, today tested positive for another uti i do not want to take another antibiotic, other options?

Needs an antibiotic: All UTIs should be treated with antibiotics. There are no safe non-antibiotic or self treatments: the risk of a dangerous complication of UTI is far higher than an antibiotic problem. Probably this UTI should be treated with a different antibiotic than the previous one. Ask your doctor about having a culture test and, if positive, testing to see for sure which antibiotic will work best.

i was treated for a uti last week, and i have 2 days left of antibiotics. i felt better a day after starting the abx, but started to hurt again yesterday. i took azo last night and feel better. should i finish the abx & wait to go in to urgent care?

UTI: Yes, you need to finish the antibiotic as the symptoms  often last longer than the length of the prescription

i have a uti.  doc said i am resistant to a number of antibiotics.  prescribed the same one i am on for longer, even tho resistant.  will that work?

Probably not: Sometimes an antimicrobial will work even if stardard sensitivities say resistant because of higher levels in the urine. But doesn't sound like it here. Do you know what the bug is and what it is sensitive to?
