i have pityriasis rosea. i have taken steroids, and im currently taking hydroxyzine pamoate 25mg. i have used a multitude creams. i have severe itch. i wanted to know could i be prescribed something more effective. this itch is taking over me. ?

Multilayer approach: Try a multilayer approach. Topical Calamine or topical anesthetic, oral antihistamines (claritin, allegra) Benadryl for night, and oral steroids to reduce the itchiness in 3 different ways. Pityriasis Rosea usually clears itself in 7-9 months.

Usually don't need: Pr would go away spontaneously without treatment, probably 6~8 weeks later.
Sometimes, topical cortisone cream, prescription-strengthed, may help to speed up the healing.

No lifestyle changes: You can do anything you want, and if you've got somebody special, that's fine too. Anyone who tells you about food choices making a difference is misinformed or worse. Getting a sunburn and/or taking a little erythromycin have been said to make the illness itch less or go away faster -- your physician can be your guide. Hope you're well soon.

Yes: The rash will clear in time whether you enjoy your swim or not.It should not aggravate it in any way.

Yes: Pityriasis does tend to get worse before it gets better, but your doctor is right. It is self limited and will eventually go away on its own. Hope this helps!

my doctor is unsure whether i have pityriasis rosea or scabies. he treated me for both but none of them helped the intense itch/rash. suggestions?

Work on it: PR self heals over several months. Scabies rash and itching is due to a reaction to the poo left in tunnels in the skin by the scabies mite. It gradually improves after all the mites are dead and quit making poo. Regular OTC steroid cream can help the scabies rash and an occasional soak in cool water with oatmeal powder can aid the itching.It takes weeks for the itching of scabies to fade.

Diagnosis must be sure.

If it is PR it is self limited &amp; heals in 6-8 weeks
Were you given any medications?

Can use benadryl by mouth &amp; external cream.
Do not use soap on the rash.

can pityriasis rosea on the belt line, constantly being pressed on from pants and belt, get irritated and display larger and darker than the rest of the rosea on the body. or would the pant and belt pressure have no effect on how its displayed?

Difficult to say: This is difficult to answer without an in-person exam, as it cannot be concluded for certain that the rash is even pityriasis rosea.  Googling images of your rash can at times help but many waste literally hundreds of dollars trying to fix their skin because they thought they had one issue when it was actually another.  I would hesitate to conclude anything legitimate based on your description.
