Need more info: If you have gotten pregnant in the past, I do not see any reason why your cervix should be closed now. Did you have any cryosurgery or any surgery done on your cervix since your last pregnancy? Are you getting your menstrual cycles? If you are bleeding, I doubt your cervix is closed. ?closed: Not sure what was meant by "closed."  check with gyn on exact meaning.  To get pregnant, have sex-unprotected with your loved one, mid cycle when you are ovulating (always 2 weeks before your period) and that is the most likely time to get pregnant.  The cervix does not have to be "visibly open" to get pregnant .  Good luck.

Slim.: Are you still having regular periods? Also at your age it would be a high risk pregnancy and a higher rate of miscarriage and complications.

The : The location of every woman's cervix is different, and is closed if not on her period, actually it is not completely closed but it would seem closed if you are examing yourself. The symptoms you described could be pre-menstrual or could be due to early pregnancy. If your period has not come by now take a home pregnancy test.

cervix closed after partial/subtotal hysterectomy. has to be closed to uterine body right? or pregnancy can occur with ovaries left in place. i get conflicted answers. why when cervix removed, its a cuff added but nothing is done when cervix remains?

: When the cervix is totally removed, then the vaginal walls are re-sutured to close the vagina also known as the vaginal "cuff". When the cervical "stump" is left in place the vagina is not left "open" because the cervix is still in place.. The remaining cervical "stump" can still become cancerous in the future and pap smears may still need to be done post sub-total hysterectomy.

26 wks pregnant. 4th child. 34 yr old. saw obgyn for prolapse symptoms. gyn said i have a low closed cervix. if gets lower i'll get pessary. i know that's not normal. can cervix/uterus go back to normal position post delivery? vaginal delivery ok?

Common after child: bearing. It can worsen, requiring surgery. At menopause, when hormone levels drop, it can become much worse. Some level of improvement can occur, after delivery, but sometimes it gets worse. Kegel's are useful now and after delivery.

See your OB/GYN: First, it would be highly unlikely for your cervix to be "open" without being pregnant. Your gynecologist should be able to assess your cervix by physical examination and direct visualization.  If your doctor thinks it is necessary, an ultrasound examination can also assess your uterus, cervix and ovaries.

Normal: The normal cervix is always "open".  If the cervix is not open then conception cannot happen. The menstrual flow would be retained in the uterus , which would soon become a big problem.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Cervical prolapse and vaginal relaxation is common in women in their 40's and older especially after having some children, however that should not effect your ability to conceive.  It is much harder and more risky to conceive  over 40.
