i have acute gastritis. when it flares up, it hits hard and is very painful. i have been given an acid blocker for a week to treat this. however, i've heard of severe acid rebound when going off them. will this happen to me? or is a week too little?

: Minimize triggers like spicy foods, caffeine,alcohol,nicotine,aspirin,anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen or naproxen, stress.  Severe gastritis may need treatment for a few weeks, then taper off them slowly to avoid rebound.  If it's a ppi you're taking, you can switch to famotidine for a week or so afterward. A gastroenterologist can advise you as needed.

DGL: DGL is licorice w/an enzyme removed which could raise BP if taken over a long period of time.  DGL is used as a natural replacement for acid blockers.  It coats the stomach and esophagus.  Peace and good health.  If you are on an acid blocker and switch (ask doc first) you may have a rebound effect for a while.

my dr. wants me to take dexilant (dexlansoprazole) at night because he said it is an acid blocker. will this reduce acid build up at night? i spit up more in am.

All acid blockers : Should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach regardless of when your symptoms are because of how the work on the stomach pH. Taken at night they are least effective. Take a Gaviscon in the morning in addition if you are still having problems. Maybe you need a gastroenterologist .

had a stomach bug in march and since then i have had stomach problems i am on an acid blocker and having aches after ejaculation in stomach area as well , bm were runny and loose now more harder and less often , the tecta helps but i am not sure what else

IBS s/p stomach bug: Iit is not uncommon to have  an abnormal/irritable bowel after gasstroenteritis due to  change  in flora during gastroenteritis, viral effect. Would get check for any residual bugs like camphylobacter,  or giardia,   even salmonella, check for H pylori, C diff,  use a probiotic w/ several organisms. Keep a food diary if related to food( like milk), . Check gallbladder . f/u w doc/ urgent care

i have gastrointestinal problems went to the doctor and was given antibiotics and a acid blocker. i still have diarrhoea and now noticing undigested foods in my stool. is this a problem?

Sure is!!!: GO BACK TO THE DR!!!. Exactly what "gastrointestinal problem"? Why the meds? Which "antibiotics"? Which "acid blocker"? Treated for h. pylori? Still on meds? If so, STOP MEDS!!!  Could be very serious.

See your doctor: Antacid medications prescribed or over the counter can be helpful. Avoid eating late at night, do not eat for several hours before lying down. What tests did you have that diagnosed a hiatal hernia? A gastroenterology evaluation may be indicated, as I do not have enough of your  clinical information here.

i have hytas hernia and take pentoprazole but recently not workin aswel and a lot of pain in between shoulder bladescan hernia and acid cause that ?

Hiatal hernia can: A hiatal hernia can contribute to esophageal regurgitation.  This regurgitation of stomach acid can cause esophageal spasms.  The esophageal spasm pain can manifest itself in different ways.  So to answer your question it is possible.  I would see your doctor to go over your medicine regimen again.

Hiatal hernia: Hiatal hernia does cause reflux and GERD symptoms.  You can have esophagitis or ulcer from hiatal hernia.  Prevacid (lansoprazole) is effective. Follow  up regularly with your doctors. Long term prevacid (lansoprazole) needs monitoring. Diet is important and weight loss is important if you are overweight.
