Is advil (ibuprofen) needed ?: Long term use, even every other day, esp. when older, can lead to kidney issues.So the question is Advil offering a discernible benefit as you have Oxy. If the answer is no, then stop Advil as it's also requiring use of Prevacid (lansoprazole) which will not minimize renal risk. Since many take NSAIDs for arthritic pain there are topical options including Lidocaine.Voltaren, however is a topical NSAID option

The good news is that any a caused by i goes away once the i is stopped.

Yes, but unlikely: Advil (ibuprofen) is a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug.  All nsaids have the potential to cause kidney injury (nephrotoxicity) and elevated liver enzymes (hepatoxicity).  Both would be uncommon if used as prescribed in a healthy person, more concerning would be the risk of stomach bleeding.  At your age, you should work with your pt to resolve the pain so as to be able to stop taking nsaids in the long run.

although i cannot tell you what your back pain is from, i can tell you that kidney damage from anti inflammatory rx such as advil (ibuprofen) is painless. If you take advil (ibuprofen) on a daily basis, it is reasonable to have blood work checked through your md  1-2 x a year.

Mildly so: As with many drugs prolonged use, especially in high doses can harm kidneys or liver. It is important to monitor liver and kidney function while taking these drugs. However they are often quite helpful in treating the pericarditis so i would certainly stay on them as long asneeded to control symptoms and stop thereafter.

Other signs as kidneys fail include anemia, bone damage, high blood pressure, and acid build up in blood. These usually occur in stages.Bone "damage" andanemia can occur below 40-50 gfr. Other symptoms generally below 20.
