Ibs: You ask good questions to which there are no specific answers.  Everyone's stool looks different.  If your stool has reddish orange swollen particles after you eat carrots, and you don't digest well, then they may be the carrots.  With IBS, there is increased transit time through the gut, so many things do not get digested properly.  It is not easier or harder to gain weight with IBS

Not IBS: It could be from gastroenteritis. The color of stool may be a reflection of the food intake or medications.

Mucus with stool: Mucus discharge occurs in up to 50% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome, with or without pain. Mucus may also be produced in response to partial obstruction, chronic constipation, rectal dysfunction, infection, &amp; even from secretory villous tumors of the rectum, among others. See doc for definitive diagnosis, particularly if mucus is persistent or accompanied by other concerning symptoms.

Anything goes: The stool in patients with ibs could be any color.  Just be mindful of blood in the stool or black stools.

Yes indeed ..: It turns out that the passage of mucus while stooling is a common feature often seen with irritable bowel syndrome.  Even with healthy bowel movements we pass small amounts of mucus, but it's so small that it's not readily visible with the naked eye.  You should make sure that something more isn't going on, as visible mucus passage can be a feature seen in more concerning processes like IBD.

Bile!  : Green in stool tends to be bile, the product of the gallbladder. It's secreted all the time but mostly reabsorbed in the colon. You're not reabsorbing right now. Unclear why, but I would not be surprised if your IBS is playing a role. Talk to your doctor.

i was diagnosed with ibs, is it normal to have some mucus in your stool? this isn't anything new i've always had it and its not every time.

IBS: If there is mucous or blood in the stool i would not diagnose ibs unless you have had a colonoscopy to rule out inflammatory bowel disease.  If the colonoscopy is normal then ibs is fairly common in young adults.

the last couple days ive had multi coloured stools, light brown orangish , yellowish and darkish green. should i be concerned? i do have ibs?

: Stool color can be affected by diet. What have you been eating? Do you have associated pain?  Gas/ bloating? Cramping?  Persistent yellow or clay  color is more concerning . Orange can be from escolar. F/u/ w/ MD
