Search for the cause: Many causes to leg spasms at bedtime: restless leg may be one but should consider neuropathy (diabetes, B12 deficiency etc), dehydration (not enough fluids), lacking enough electrolytes (potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous etc), medications side effects like cholesterol meds or diuretics (water pills). You & your doctor can get to the cause in order to properly treat this.

Sure: Can affect entire leg, including foot, but the tingling might suggest an underlying peripheral neuropathy or less likely, poor blood vessel flow.  Original RLS descriptions included association of nerve problems often acting as triggering events.  Think it is of value to see what is present.  Although EMG might uncover, perhaps a skin punch biopsy may be needed.

Depends: One subgroup of people with restless leg syndrome have a type of condition called peripheral neuropathy.  This is a type of condition and not a specific illness.  There are many illnesses that cause peripheral neuropathy.  

Some patients with peripheral neuropathy will have primary effects on small sized nerve fibers.  These patients often have burning pain.  Formal nerve evaluation is indicated.

i have a constricting pain in my right foot. it feels as though it's in a vice and being squeezed. i take requip (ropinirole) for restless leg, could this pain be caused by the restless leg syndrome? it's hurts.

See below: I doubt it is restless leg since it is only involving one foot.  It could be arthritis, injury, or gout.  You may want to see a doctor for further evaluation.

Cause and effect??: It is hard to imagine that the injury and the restless leg syndrome now are some how a cause and effect situation. To remove all doubt, have your leg examined as well as validating the potential causes for restless leg syndrome.

She needs help..: It seems she has several problems here. The feet and eyes swelling need medical evaluation. Some meds can cause legs/eyes swelliing, so is nephrotic syndrome, protiein malnutrition, and some others s well. The restless legs probably is disrupting her sleep and thus she is feeling tired all the time..Her legs won't let her rest/sleep. So, i would suggest a visit to her doc..Good luck.

Baclofen? Doubt it: I've never prescribed Baclofen for RLS. I'm sure someone has but none of my colleagues have. Problem is we don't know what causes RLS but we don't believe it is due to muscle spasms which is what baclofen would treat.  We believe it's more along the lines of some type of neuropathy. From the brain, the legs, a sleep disorder? Iron may have some effect in iron deficient people but otherwise NOT.

Vitamin and Minerals: Often restless leg syndrome is due to various vitamin and mineral deficiencies.  I recommend trying a good MVI (multivitamin) with minerals including magnesium and zinc.  Also eat a good source of calcium but not with the mvi (multivitamin).  And most importantly, vit d is essential.

rls is more common in women than men (hence the range). The stanford study found that alcohol and/or smoking use, as with night-shift working, increases risk of rls. They also said that with increased age RLS risk increases, and that sleep apnea and coffee consumption also contributed. They said more data was needed.
