i had bad dark, watery diarrhea four nights ago. took imodium (loperamide) ad on recommendation. diarrhea improved, but gas persists and stool still isn't quite normal. i'm not in pain, but what should i do?

Bland diet: Stay on a bland diet for a few days--nothing greasy or fried. Stay off of milk and juice as well.

no medication being useful to stop my 18 months baby's diarrhoea. he is suffering from 7 days of diarrohea and vomiting also. is loperamide suitable for him at this age ?

: If child has diarrhea more then a week you should go to your pediatrician. Child could have bacterial infection and could be dehydrated from diarrhea. Don’t use any medicine without doctor’s permission.

You need: a visit with your Health Care Provider who may wish to refer you for (or evaluate themselves) IBS-D (Irritable Bowel Syndrome D...however before making this diagnosis some conditions need to be excluded ( Gluten sensitivity (Adult Coeliac Disease) Lactase insufficiency and INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE
Blood tests and possible endoscopy may be involved!

Diarrhea: Diarrhea that starts all of a sudden and lasts a week or so is often due to viral illness, especially in light of a loss of appetite.  If your diarrhea results in dehydration or lasts longer than 2 weeks, you should seek medical care.

Unusual: Symptoms are a little unusual. Imodium (loperamide) not working ( assume you are taking this at max recommended dose) and no other reported symptoms.  I think this deserves a visit to the doc. One should make sure to replace fluid losses from diarrhea with adequate oral intake.

Chronic Diarrhea: With diarrhea that has lasted this long, you need to be evaluated. There are several infectious and non-infectious causes. Get a referral to a gastroenterologist and have your stool tested for O&amp;P, get a full history &amp; exam. Stay hydrated/wash hands.

Safe to stop: Imodium (loperamide) treats just the diarrhea itself, not what causes the diarrhea. After 4 days, not only is it safe to stop, it's probably recommended to stop to make sure that the underlying cause of the diarrhea has gotten better.

was taking clindamycin 150 mg 4 x day for 2 days now i have persistent  diarrhea   i stoped takeing it my pharmist told my to take imodium (loperamide) to stop ?

Diarrhea w/ antibx: This is a very common side-effect of antibiotics, but it doesn't mean you're allergic. Just that the normal bacteria in your gut are getting killed off and aren't able to help digest your food.  You can use imodium (loperamide) to help firm your stools and stop the diarrhea. Read the package instructions and don't take too much. Then tell your Dr that you need something else for the infection s/he was treating

More questions.: This raises a number of questions. How much diarrhea are you having? If it's more than 5 stools a day or wakes you at night and is associated with pain, fever, or blood in the stool it's time to see a doctor right away. Sometimes  medication, for example Prozac (fluoxetine) or Losartan can cause diarrhea. Diarrhea in women can lead to urinary infection.  Your MD can help, make an appointment.  Best wishes!
