my husband has been clearing his throat for about 8 years now. his worst time is after he eats. he's been to 4 drs. and nothing helps. can anything he?

Tic: habit: If someone is clearing throat for 8 years and the throat doctor or allergist could not find anything wrong, i would think that clearing throat has become a habit like developing tics. In that case do nothing approach works.

i've been coughing and sneezing. 1st i was cough up clear thick mucus and now its yellow & thick. chest, throat hurt. cough is worst when laying down.

Sinusitis/bronchitis: Sounds like a URI has turned into a spell of bronchitis.  If the cough is productive of colored mucus, increasing cough and a fever, than you should visit your doctor or an utc for  a thorough examination and perhaps a course of antibiotics.

i'm always trying to clear my troat as if i had phlegm but there is nothing there and it gets worst after breakfast i have beem taking pantoprazole 40 mg for too long it does 'n help much any more,can you help?

dull pain lowest left rib for 1 yr. flares but improves. seems posture related. loads of tests all clear organs ruled out. at worst i also feel pain up in my left shoulder and neck. i do have left pars l2 defect. pcp not concerned, what else to try?

: Left pars L2 defect should not cause symptom of the thorax. If you think your pain is postured related you should be evaluated by a physiotherapist.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity at tolerated.

Secretions: This may be some post-nasal drip from sinus drainage, or simply the body's way of getting unwanted materials out of the upper respiratory tract.  Your tissues have a brush border and secrete mucous to entrap foreign particles and sweep them out so that they don't get into the lungs and cause pneumonia.

Natural remedies: Saltwater gargles are very helpful. Mix a teaspoon of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle with this several times a day. You can gargle with aloe vera juice a couple of times per day. A mixture of chamomile tea with honey ; a small amount of lemon juice is good. Pour boiling water over thinly sliced organic ginger. Steep for at least five minutes in a covered pot. Add 2 to 3 tbs of honey ; sip.

Many possibilities: There are many possibilities. Repetitive patterned events like throat clearing could be something as simple as a transient tic, that may arise after a  simple URI where throat clearing was a natural response to drainage.These typically last a few months & fade. It could also be an early symptom of a quite variable problem called tourette syndrome.Discuss with kids dr the next time you go in.
