Go to the clinic: If you think you have bv, go to the doctor to make sure. You may be right but a doctor should look to make sure that there isnt a secondary infection going on at the same time. If you do, it can be treated with antibiotics. In general it is best not to try to diagnose yourself.

Most: Most walk-in clinics, urgent care, student health centers and community clinics can do exams for BV. Emergency rooms are the most expensive an least good choice for  this kind of thing. good wishes.

can one pap test in one clinic show bacterial vaginosis and another pap  in another clinic trichomoniasis? how accurate is pap test in detecting stds?

Clues found: The Pap smear in not like a blood sugar test or throat culture where one finding is produced. The specimen is cellular material &amp; fluids applied to a microscope slide. Some days they may see the cervical cell alterations that are found in vaginosis. Occasionally the  single celled organism that causes trichomonas vaginalis  will be identified. They wouldn't report either if not seen.

burning irritation, itchy, mild fishy vaginal odor with very little clear discharge...could it be a yeast infection or bv or what? what otc meds work?

No OTC: There are otc treat.  Probiotics such as probalac are effective.  Natural ingredients like boric acid has been used to treat BV suppository or douche   also vitamin combinations products such as with a, c, d, and others.  Also omega-3 fa.  Prescription therapy include Clindamycin vaginal gel or Metronidazole vaginal gel or oral tablets.

im currently taking meds to clear out bv but feel like im developing uti symptoms can bv trigger recurrent utis? and is it safe to take nitrofurantoin while taking the metronidazole? i take my last 500mg tonight?

: Neither metronidazole nor BV is likely to cause UTI. If you have recurrent UTIs and current symptoms are similar, it may be reasonable to start your nitrofurantoin; it is safe along with MTZ. But first it would be wise to use a UTI self-test strip. Don't start NTF unless it shows evidence of UTI. If in doubt, call your doctor to discuss urinalysis and urine culture. Good luck.

is it possible for bacterial vaginosis to clear up on its own without treatment? i am hypersensitive to meds and do not want to treat if it's possible to clear up on its own because meds may make me more sick?

Options: Be aware that there are many locally instilled medications/treatments for BV that do not involve you taking anything orally. The oral route is just simple &amp; desired by many as a quick fix. Some such products are offered over the counter in the US.

i continually keep getting bv, i haven't had a sex partner in a month. i feel like i'm going to be on meds forever. this sucks. help. :(?

See below: After treatment with metronidazole, Clindamycin or tinidazole,  try oral and/or vaginal  lactobacillus containing probiotic preparations which have had variable success.  Consider having your sexual partner treated with Metronidazole or clindamycin.  Recurrent disease has been associated with colonization of the sex partner, inconsistant condom use and has been halved with estrogen contraceptives.

flagyl for bv. finished day 7. symptoms much better. tend to come &go very minimal burning left. could meds still be working a couple days after ?

Meds worked: It sounds like the flagyl worked for you. By the end of the 7 day course symptoms should be improving and resolving. Flagyl will continue to work for awhile after taking it while the body continues to eliminate it. However by 2 days after you stop it is virtually all eliminated from your body. If symptoms persist please be evaluated by a physician.

i have bv and it continues to come back. i have had a full exam, i am completely healthy. what can i do to end this problem? im 34 this has been going on for years. the meds my doc gives me works but then a month or so later its back

I : I am assuming that you mean bacterial vaginosis.  Things you can try are reducing sugary foods or drinks, reducing alcohol (because of sugar content), avoiding hot baths or any bubble-bath products, using a non-soap type of product such as cetaphil cleanser (ask your pharmacist for recommendation), using a soothing cream such as vagisil or similar product, and only wearing cotton underwear and not synthetic products.
