Not 100%: The steroid will take out some of the swelling associated but in a black woman it must be used sparingly and a short time because steroids can change skin color. It is best to soothe with a moisturizer. avoid re exposure to the sun and always wear a good broad spectrum sun block

Sumburn and eczema: For sunburn i would use silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) cream , treat the skin as first degree burn once it is healed then you can resume the cortisone cream.

Accepted Answer

Yes.: Hydrocortisone is a topical steroid which is an anti-inflammatory agent.  It can be used on inflammation of most any sort as long as the skin is not broken.

is it ok to use hydrocortisone 1% cream daily for eczema in 3 year old continuously for an year? will there be any side effects using it daily for longer period of time say 1 year or so?

Yes: I don't use anything stronger than 1/2% on face unless there is thickened irritated skin &amp; then only 2X/day. Using 1% on all other skin is fine for most sites up to several times a day. The 1% is not absorbed into the serum/blood to the point it would trigger any significant issues. However, any steroid can thin the skin so you must decrease use when this happens &amp; eczema is controlled.

what are my options for treating hemorrhoids? already tried a 5 day supply of hydrocortisone suppositories. do i maybe just need them treated longer?

Sitz baths: Sitz baths at least twice a day will definitely help.  Stay on a high fiber diet, drink plenty of fluids, use very soft toilet paper and start a stool softener.  If you are not better within 2 weeks, see a gastroenterologist or a colorectal surgeon.

Similar, minor diffe: The long term side effects are numerous depending on the individuals, duration, and dose.  Major ones: Osteoporosis, cataract, diabetes, hypertension, adrenal suppression (stop working altogether) . Some may have glaucoma. Weight gain at the belly and face, acne etc. Some immune suppression can be expect with high doses for months.
Prednisone has less sodium-retention effects (less low potassium)

Warfarin: There is minimal evidence to suggest any warfarin interaction with sunburn.

Lip burns: 39 year old gentleman with lip burns. How painful are your burns? If they were minor first degree burns simply applying topical antibiotic ointment or lip balm will help but if it was a painful blistering partial thickness burn or a serious burn with blisters that you can tell is deep but has no pain you may require a full exam to determine whether you require further treatment. Wear lip sunscreen

Possibly: Topical steroids have the potential of causing thinning of the skin and stretch marks that are permanent
color changes may be part of these changes which may or may not recover.





Permanent.  Color loss may or may not  return.

what could be the effects of using hydrocortisone on a boil?

Accepted Answer

Reduce inflammation: over the counter hydrocortisone will perhaps reduce the redness and tenderness of a boil but it is no substitution for treatment.  You cannot dismiss a staph infection.  Most "boils" should be lanced under sterile technique.
