See doctor: This could possible be skin cancer or another abnormal growth. A non healing lesion with a scab needs to be evaluated and probably biopsied. A dermatologist will diagnose and treat this.

see your PCP for him to consider doing a biopsy of the lesion.

Bump on skin: May be infection1 inch is large  Does it hurt/ becuase it may need to be opened and pus removed and antibiotics given.  Alternatively could be allergic reaction to  bug/environment  but at 1 inch would still give  antibiotics  .would go to urgent care /doctor and have it checked out. today

He : He may be dealing with a fungal infection aka jock itch (tinea cruris). An over the counter anti-fungal cream like Clotrimazole should help if this is in fact the problem. On the other hand, if the small red bump persists, or is very painful there may be something else going on like a genital wart, herpetic lesion, or bacterial infection (abscess). I suggest he try the Clotrimazole first, and if that does not work see a doctor.

Ideas: This is likely a oil gland infection at the base of a hair root, (folliculitis).Applying moist heat will sometimes improve circulation enough that it will spontaneously drain &amp; heal. If you pick it the infection can spread to surrounding tissues &amp; create a noticeable scar or need more aggressive treatment. Applying antibiotic ointment just inside the nasal outlet can also help.
