i have a flaky and itchy scalp and my anus itches really bad at times. what could this be?

Scalp/Anal Itch: It sounds as if you have two contions. The scalp may be a condition called seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis. The anal itch can be due to many things: toilet paper, foods, medications, soaps or detergents, improper cleansing the anal area, and more. See your physician; he/she can usually iron these problems out. Shampooin daily with a tar shampoo may help the scalp.

Either: unfortunately, your symptoms may be either one.  You should definitely see your dermatologist to get the correct diagnosis.  This is important as each has a completely different treatment.

Accepted Answer

Multifactorial: Causes include excessive hygiene, pinworms, diet, anal leakage, hemorrhoids.  Try avoiding soap and washcloth on anal area.  Only warm water and your hand to cleanse in the shower.  Avoid medicated wipes, just use soft toilet paper and wipe as little as possible.  Avoid ingesting coffee, tea, soda, beer or citrus.

Steroids: Most itchy conditions of the anus can be treated with steroids, such as hydrocortisone. However if conditions do not improve in 1-2 weeks then an evaluation should be done.

? Dandruff: Or seborrhoeic dermatitis, you want to to see your doctor, meanwhile you may try using OTC anti dandruff shampoo, good luck

No: Itch is not related to MPB. It could be related to dandruff / seborrheic dermatitis, or simply dry skin.

i have an itchy scalp and two small bumps at the bottom of my head on either side. could this be allergy related since it is fall? i have been sweating a lot as well due to increase in exercise. skin on body itches as well.

Sounds more: like an infected scalp and the "lumps" may be enlarged lymph glands which drain the scalp!
A "hands on" exam is indicated and an anti-dandruff
shampoo with a course of oral antibiotics may be indicated!

Lymphadenopathy: You need a diagnosis.

Normal blood work does not mean much.

Be persistent till you get the diagnosis

It sound to me: by the areas involved that you may have PSORIASIS!

My suggestion is that you start by seeing a Board Certified Dermatologist...there are many TREATMENTS if that is the diagnosis.

Over the counter steroid (cortisone) is a FIRST AID you can try....but check with your PCP for any other treatment if you cannot see a Dermatology specialist soon!
