No!  Don't stop!: Supervised yoga is great for conditioning your body, keeping your core strong (supports your back) and improving overall muscle tone.  Staying mindfully active with low back issues is very important.  Consider consultation with a physical therapist to learn exercises that would be beneficial and those to avoid.

Yoga: yoga can relieve muscle tension which can held sore muscles. Also, holding yoga poses makes your back muscles and core muscles stronger, which makes them more resistant to injury.

Modify poses: Assuming your back pain etiology is clear,  and you are comfortable enough to stretch your body with yoga, then modify the poses (asanas) to minimalize pain yet still engaging your body to stretch.  Bolsters, folded blankets, blocks, all of these aids can allow you to be in a pose comfortably and remain in the pose long enough to obtain the benefits desired.

Triangke: Triangle on both sides. I suggest putting you spine in all degrees of rotation:  downward dog, reverse downward dog, both side triangles , and standing with feet parallel to wall - hands on wall and head looking over opposite shoulder - both sides. I practice yoga myself- not so good with the names though.

i am almost 2 years post op 2 level lumbar fusion. low back pain has improved but still having issues with back muscle tightness/muscle fatigue. exercise regularly, weights, walking, yoga. advice?

Stretch: Before exercising.  This is really important as it will help increase your strength as well as decrease injury.  Get a loved one to give you a massage or get a professional one on a regular basis.

lower back pain on right side that goes down my right light. its been going on for 5 weeks. its worse when im sitting down a certain way, so i try to get up and walk around or massage the area but it doesnt seem to help that much. what is this?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. If you are overweight, losing weight is imperative. Regular aerobic exercise would help by improving muscle strength and flexibility. If these measures do not help, it would be prudent to see a doctor. Wish you good health!

Could be : Chronic myelogenous leukemia is increased abnormal myeloid and similar stem cells in the bone marrow  located in vertebrae and other bones but aside from very high white counts often do not cause back pains. There are complications: tumor outside bones that may rarely occur or even collapsed bony structures leading to pain. Best check with oncologist and do imaging . Good news is  Gleevec (imatinib) cures.

i have really bad lower back pain. it doesn't shoot down my leg or get numb. hurts the worst when i stand up from a sitting position. what can it be?

Mechanical back pain: Back pain that doesn't radiate and gets worse after standing is usually musculoskeletal back pain.  When we sit our iliopsoas muscles get tighter and then when we stand that tightness causes pain.  Usually, a back extension program is a quick and easy fix.  But see your doctor for treatment options.
