hello. i think im suffering from insomnia. i take melatonin everyday to fall asleep but i cant stay asleep i wake up 2/3 per night. i do suffer with anxiety+depression, my blood works are normal. im just always tired. what other tests can be done?

Need evaluation: It&#x27;s hard to know why you&#x27;re having so many awakenings without a full evaluation.  Are you on medications?  Using drugs or alcohol?  Are you overweight?  Do you snore?  How is your mood and interest in doing things you usually enjoy?  Are you sleeping in a noisy, uncomfortable place?  There are many possible causes for insomnia.  A sleep medicine physician or psychiatrist should be able to help.

Insomnia: Many causes for insomnia.  You need to see your doctor for a checkup.  You may have a sleep disorder and need to get tested in a sleep clinic.

Need to see doctor: There can be many reasons for insomnia -- just a few possibilities being great anxiety, agitated depression, use  of speed-like drugs, use of alcohol, hypomania and primary insomnia.  There are others as well.  Best to see your primary care physician for evaluation and help.  Or if you're already working with a psychiatrist, you could see him or her.

Insomnia: Get out of bed, walk around or sit in a chair and read.  Drink a glass of warm milk. Do not watch television or play video games since that will make things worse.  After sitting and reaading for 15 to 30 minutes try going to bed.

Maybe: Before trying medication, you may want to check and be sure you are promoting sleep.
Avoid caffeine late in the day. Go to sleep around the same time in a quiet dark comfortable place. Get regular exercise during the day, but not too close to bedtime. Don't eat heavy meals close to bedtime. Avoid excess alcohol.
If you are doing these things, and still can't get to sleep, see your doctor.

Do you think about what you did that day & what you need to get done tomorrow?  When was your last caffiene use?  How heavy is your alcohol intake? How big was your dinner & how many hours before bed?  1. Keep a regular bedtime & wakening time (to include weekends). Get up the &gt;.

Cant sleep: Turn off all electronic devices an hour before bedtime. That includes texting also.Relax with some soft music and get to bed at the same time every night
