i can see a black shadow in my peripheral from time to time. is this normal?

Yes and no: Shadows that come and go and float around are very common, and are due to lumps in the vitreous jelly that fills the back of the eye.  Another common cause of temporary peripheral shadows is migraines.  Signs of concern are shadows that remain stationary and don't go away, showers of new floaters and flashing lights.  If you have these symptoms you should be checked by an eye doctor.

See an eye doc ASAP: It sounds like you had a vitreous detachment (pvd)which is very common after age 50 or earlier if the person is myopic or had h/o an eye trauma.  90% people of the time the person has no issue except floater and occasional flashes for 2-4 months.  About 10% of the patients may develope retinal tear or detachment.  Since you have a new symptoms with periph shadow you need to see an ophth
asap.

See eye doctor: Please see an eye doctor. I don’t know how old you are or any other history for you. These facts would be important to know to answer this question better. There are both serious and common/not serious possible causes for this. It is most important that you see someone in person to get a complete history and complete exam.

ive been feeling lightheaded, almost like disconnected. also seeing flashes of light in my peripheral vision, it goes black and flashes...all happening same time quite often. what could cause this? i dont feel like myself either, i feel off..?

: There are several possible causes of these symptoms and all require an urgent visit with your doctor or ER.  Beginning of a detached retina, stroke, and panic attack are the first three that come to mind immediately. Call your doctor and if you cannot be seen right away, go to your nearest ER for evaluation.

ive had a flash in peripheral vision right eye for about 4 months, every day 1-3 times/day. eye dr said he doesnt see anything. what else could it be?

Flash of light: Seizure? Cholesterol emboli that moves on? blood clot from heart or artery in next that is small and moves on. Any Hx of trauma to eye? If persists go back to Eye Dr. Let us know what they find.

It is possible that: symptoms of this nature are related to a neurological or other systemic disorder. Potentially multiple sclerosis. Ask your health care provider for a referral to a neurologist for evaluation.

Optometrist: Please see an optometrist for evaluation. You may have local irritation of the lining of the eye, rinse gently with ocular saline. The peripheral vision evaluation may be completed during the visit.
