Yes and no: Shadows that come and go and float around are very common, and are due to lumps in the vitreous jelly that fills the back of the eye. Another common cause of temporary peripheral shadows is migraines. Signs of concern are shadows that remain stationary and don't go away, showers of new floaters and flashing lights. If you have these symptoms you should be checked by an eye doctor.

Yes and no: Chances are you have an occassional floater. There are some serious conditions that can cause a change in your vision. You should have a baseline comprehensive eye examination in order to exclude the serious ones.
