Yes and yes: answer to your question is both.  Can be sporadic as well as routine EDS and even sleep attacks.  Please see a sleep specialist for assessment and treatment.

Sleep disorder: Your symptoms are fairly classical sleep apnea, however there are several other conditions would also need to be ruled out. One of them is central nervous system idiopathic hypersomnia, and the other is narcolepsy. There are also many other conditions can cause excessive daytime sleepiness. The person to rule this out would be a sleep disorder specialist please ask your family doctor for a referral or self refer through the phone book. You will need a overnight polysomnogram test and possibly an ms lt the following day to check for narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnolence. Best wishes to you. would taking my 60mg of prozac (fluoxetine) at night instead of the morning help with my daytime sleepiness? thank you

Fluoxetine: or Prozac (fluoxetine) is more commonly associated with difficulty sleeping or insomnia and is not generally thought of as a sedative medication.  There may be other reasons for your daytime sleepiness but you should be ok to try taking this medicine at night.

i take a variety of medications and have day time sleepiness, even with cpap compliance and good ahi values.  how can i prevent daytime sleepiness?

Probably change: your combination of medications.. They are whats making you sleepy, not the CPAP.

: You possess a sleep disorder, perhaps due to nocturnal sleep apnea, but maybe due to narcolepsy.  See a neurologist, get some blood studies and perhaps an overnight sleep study.

How long?: Depends in part on how long and what dose of Prozac. I see lexapro and Xanax (alprazolam) on your profile as well. Lexapro is also an SSRI and I am not sure why you would be on both. Xanax (alprazolam) is very addictive, can cause drowsiness and rebound anxiety. I would discuss with your doctor. There are other antidepressants which may help with both anxiety and depression instead of taking 3 medications

If it disturbs sleep: If the night-time grinding bruxism, disturbs you from having a normal series of sleep cycles that usually last about 90 minutes each, then you may have daytime sleepiness. You should see a dentist who treats bruxism & if you do not have improvement, get a sleep study to check for sleep apnea or other sleep disturbances that they can measure.

NOT SURE OF QUESTION: Sorry but are you saying that you have  daytime sleepiness and alzheimers? Well the system ia all topsy turvy when you have alzheimers as far as memory and mood and behavior. If this is your question then definitely need a physician to treat the Alzheimer's disease and any other behavioral changes that come along.

Light and Oxygen: If you feel you have more daytime sleepiness than you should given your work and sleep schedule see your doctor - sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome can disrupt sleep without you knowing it. General tips - try to keep to a regular schedule of light and dark (without that your circadian rhythms will be messed up and you'll have trouble waking up. Also regular exercise, but not too late.
