No: In fact, kelp may make things even worse unless you have a documented iodine deficiency.  Overdoing kelp may cause hypothyroidism also.  Hypothyroidism can only be treated by replacing the hormone which is no longer made by the thryoid gland.  Levothyroxine daily is the standard of care for patients with hypothyroidism.

What they mean: You want to ask your doctor what is the interpretation of the blood work result, and in addition you want to ask if you should do further testing and do something about with that. I f you do have any symptoms -you need to bring that up- so if therapy is indicated- then your doctor can recommend you to get one. Also, always ask the possible side effects and things to watch out with each therapy.

It doesn't : Thyroid hormone replacement with levothyroxine is the medication necessary to get thyroid function back to normal if hypothyroid.  If you're iodine deficient that's a different story. If you're not iodine deficient and you take iodine, you may become hypothyroid. If thyroid function is normal then weight problem is not caused by an under active thyroid.

Probably not: Remember that all medications and supplements may result in side effects and it is individually dependent.  I would recommend taking a new medication at low dosages at first to see if you have any adverse reactions.  Tyrosine is not fda studied and is considered a supplement.  As a supplement, it is taken from 500mg to 1000mg per day.  Supplements may vary by manufacturer so always be careful.
