hyperventilation. how fast can someone pass out if hyperventilating?

Varies: This varies from person to person ranging from fast to not being able to fully pass out.  When one hyperventilates, the arterial carbon dioxide level drops, this causes a physiologic decrease in blood flow to the brain, and depending on the person, they may pass out due to decreased blood flow similar to a fainting episode.  Don't try this alone or while standing.

Hypervent.: Good to know that all tests are normal. Not sure if u r on medications for anxiety, but it might be something u can discuss with your primary care doc.

i have an extreme phobia of needles and need a blood test.. could i hyperventilate to pass out while they draw the blood ?

You don't need to : Pass out or hyperventilate there R tech that can work fairly quickly. Cognitive behavioral therapy using progressive desensitization (learning 2relax ; then imagining the phobic event from least 2most anxiety provoking image while relaxed. I usually do this using hypnosis as a relaxation technique, but u can use other relaxation methods. Find a therapist ; U will b able 2get relief fairly quickly.

in dance class,i really felt like i might pass out. i was seeing spots, hyperventilating, & had to sit. is this a serious zoloft (sertraline) effect? i am worried.

Anxiety: Sounds more like a panic attack. When you start to hyperventilate your body blows off carbon dioxide and that can cause your blood vessels to constrict.  That causes the feeling of "passing out", visual spots and weakness. The mechanism is real.  Continue your activities. Dance is excellent for exercise and relaxation.  Stick with your meds.  If symptoms are recurrent let your doctor know.

my 13days old baby xray shows hyperventilation or bronchospasm.he sometimes breaths fast and deep i guess.the last 2days he coughs once during crying,?

Hard to say: During the first month an infant sets its breathing pattern. Fast/slow/deep/shallow all need to be matched with level of activity. This is not required in the womb. They may appear to pant or stop then start after a pause. If an x-ray catches a deep breath it will be read as hyperventilation. I would need to examine the baby, feeding pattern, etc. to put it in context. it could be normal, or not.

hi, i have a question about cerebral hypoxia  brain damage. if i were to empty my lungs of all air and hold it for 30 seconds while taking 4 very small, fast hyperventilation like breathes, would that give me brain damage? can you explain?

No.: Breath holding may result in loss of consciousness but breathing is under automatic control. You would start breathing again immediately. The degree of hypoxia during breath-holding is not sufficient to cause brain damage. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

my husband has been sick. with chills, fever of 38.1. low heart bp 118 over 57. stomach running, breathing fast, like hyperventilation when dosed off. close to passing out in the shower, his hands are tight and talking lethargy. any idea what it is?

Likely infectious: Depending on your husband’s age and medical history many other causes are possible. He definitely needs help as he is dehydrated and likely toxic. Have him assessed now in the closest ER.

Hyperventilate: There are several possibilities.  If you mean by hyperventilating you are short of breath with effort of walking fast then it indicates that you may not be getting enough oxygen to your heart.  This could be a pulmonary problem or a cardiac problem.  You must call your doctor to report this and be examined to find the cause and then properly treated.  Do not postpone== this could be serious.

Hyperventilating: PremM ~ yes hyperventilating blows off CO2 and the low pCO2 in the blood disturbs calcium metabolism and you can get cramps in the long muscles and parasthesiae or numbness sandf tingling in the perifery. If you continue you pass out. Treatment. Get a brown paper BAG and put it over mouth and nose and re-breath your own breath and it corrects.
