A member asked:

My 13days old baby xray shows hyperventilation or bronchospasm.he sometimes breaths fast and deep i guess.the last 2days he coughs once during crying,?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say: During the first month an infant sets its breathing pattern. Fast/slow/deep/shallow all need to be matched with level of activity. This is not required in the womb. They may appear to pant or stop then start after a pause. If an x-ray catches a deep breath it will be read as hyperventilation. I would need to examine the baby, feeding pattern, etc. to put it in context. it could be normal, or not.
