Week or so: Hormones cause reactions slowly because they work on receptors which cause an effect. Taking synthroid (thyroxine) will not stimulate your thyroid which is not functioning it will bypass the thyroid and you will be replacing your thyroid hormone with the pill. The level will rise after just a few days but to really level off will take a few weeks however the pill will be already having some effects.

Yes: Any instability in the thyroid (hypo-, hyper-) can alter reproductive hormone balance. However, once the thyroid disease is stabilized for 3-6 mos or more, there should be no effect on male fertility.

Two antithyroid drug:  are currently available in the United States: Propylthiouracil (PTU (propylthiouracil)) and Methimazole (MMI, Tapazole). Carbimazole  is available in Europe and parts of Asia, but not in the United States. PTU (propylthiouracil) used to be the drug of choice during pregnancy because it has a lower risk of causing birth defects - now it is only recommended during 1st trimester

: thyroid storm has a scoring system based on heart rate, temperature, mental status, and GI symptoms. Thyroid storm can occur while on medications for high thryiordism
