i started meds for hyperthyroidism yesterday. when should i expect the brain fog (symptom) to go ?

: Brain fog has many causes and I don't recall see many with this due to excess thyroid issues.  It will depend on what medicine you started and what is the cause of your excess thyroid and brain fog. Bt will depend on what you mean by brain fog. The definition is a bit foggy.  ;-)

i recently discovered that i have hyperthyroidism. could that be the cause if my permanent brain fog that i have been experiencing for most of my life?

: Did you have characteristic symptoms of hyperthyroidism recently when the condition was diagnosed? Tremors,weight loss,heat intolerance,rapid heart rate, irritability,or other emotional changes to name some?  I would have expected you to have at least some of these symptoms along with your brain fog through the years if your thyroid was overactive then.

: If TSH level has been normal throughout the years, your thyroid problem is of recent onset, it has nothing to do with your brain fog syndrome.

: In general, no two people react to medication the same way. Often nit takes your Physician time to titrate the optimum dose for you. Also consider that you may have concurrent but unrelated imbalances. Has anyone suggested that you see a specialist Endocrinologist, especially as you seem to have an eccrine imbalance.

The causes include anything that disrupts normal function of the brain... drugs/toxins being most common

In any case, it's always a good idea to discuss these sx with your primary care doctor to rule out any physical causes and take things from there. Can't tell: Anti depressants can reverse symptoms of mental fog only if someone had those as symptoms of depression. Discuss your concerns with your doctor to make certain the goals you have are the same as your prescriber. 
Determining the cause of your symptoms is primary! These may have nothing to do with your depression, or be totally be cause by it.
Brain fog is better treated by stimulants.
