can i use hydrogen peroxide on eczema?

This would not...: Be a good  primary treatment for eczema because of his drying effect. I will have patients use it sometimes in the ear canals where there is a fungal infection and also eczema. As soon as the fungus is cleared the peroxide is discontinued and the eczema is treated differently.

i have dyshidrotic eczema really bad on my left hand right now. for a couple weeks off and on i have been pouring hydrogen peroxide on it to dry the skin out multiple times a day. is it okay to use the hydrogen peroxide like this?

: the skin problem is aggravated by excess moisture. Hydrogen peroxide turns to water after releasing an oxygen molecule. As long as you dry the area completely after use, I don't think it would be harmful. I wouldn't consider it a very effective treatment, but if you feel it works, do it.

May be too drying: Eczema is usually best treated with moisturizing creams and lotions as it is a condition resulting in dry and often cracked or scaly skin. Hydrogen peroxide would likely dry the skin too much.

No: Too close to the eye to use effectively. Better option are frequent warm compresses ; eyelid scrubs with dilute baby shampoo. Also topical antibiotic ointment.

Not the best: There are much better disinfectants than hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide only works on anaerobic bacteria, you may be better off with lysol

Stop using it.: First stop using hydrogen peroxide on your skin. Use only mild soap and water to wash with and rinse well. Use a moisturizer afterward and see your doctor if the rash continues.

Hydrogen peroxide: What may have been acceptable in the past is no longer true. Do not apply hydrogen peroxide on a wound! it kills good cells along with bacteria. It is toxic to the base of the wound.

Not diagnostic: Most wounds will bubble with peroxide-- does not imply infection at all.  Question should really be whether you should be using peroxide at all! - it tends to kill the "healing" cells, so i personally do not recommend it.

I would love to: I would love to sell you some swampland in florida. I don't know where you heard or read this, but no! do you want to dissolve existing decay or fill the teeth? Dentists can repair teeth with cavities much better than toothpaste and hydrogen peroxide.

what is the difference between hydrogen peroxide and magnesium peroxide? is magnesium peroxide safe to ingest on a regular basis?

Accepted Answer

Very different: Why in the world would you swallow either of these?  Are you constipated? Magnesium is a laxative (milk of magnesia).
