Gently: If the hydrocortisone is very lightly applied and does not contact or flow into the eyes, you can safely use it on the skin.  Long term use can thin the eyelid skin and cause vascular prominence, but what you are describing is short term and should not cause any problems.

Eyelid steroid: Topical Hydrocortisone cream can be used on eyelid skin for a short duration safely.  Topical steroid is not a standard therapy for "open pores" so i would see an eye doctor prior to initiating this therapy.

Sometimes: Hydrocortisone is a potent steriod that is available over the counter. It can be used around the eyelids for short periods of time but care must be taken not to get any in the eye. If used to long it can cause thinning of the skin. If used for more than a few days and the problem does not resolve, you should consult an ophthalmologist or dermatologist.

Maybe ok: The potency of a medication is often dependent on how it has been stored (usually cool and shady area) . If the appearance looks ok ,you may try it although it may be slightly less potent.  Be careful about using cortisone cream on your eyelids.
Obviously the more recent the product is manufactured the more trust one has in it. However for a topical product, I see little harm in trying it.

Calcineurin Agents: Calcineurin inhibitors are often prescribed as an alternative to topical corticosteroids or when other treatments have failed or lead to unwanted side effects. Unlike topical corticosteroids, topical calcineurin inhibitors do not thin the skin and can be applied to sensitive areas, such as the face and eyelids, where corticosteroids are avoided.

i'm prescribed hydrocortisone to treat redness under nose, now noticed that eyelids and outer corners have got same redness. can i apply this cream?

Accepted Answer

Yes: You may allergic dermatitis or eczema.  You can apply small strip over the redness once or twice a day.  If does not go away by one week, please consult an ophthalmologist.  Please avoid the cream in the eye.

Be careful: Hydrocortisone should be used carefully by the eye. It should not get into the eye because it can cause cataracts.  Use the least amount possible in that area.  Keep in mind that steroid creams have side effects: thinning of the skin, changes in the color of the skin.

Antihistamine: Aside from the passage of time, try giving him antihistamine to reduce the itching and swelling. A doctor may also prescribe a short-course of oral steroid if the swelling affects the vision.

: If you use this cream on a daily basis for periods longer than 10-14 days, repeatedly the skin can be thinned and even become more irritated. It is important to consider any other substance that is applied to your skin as a possible additional irritant like creams, lotions, makeup. For atopic rashes a short course of a steroid cream can be helpful. See your doctor for follow ups.

found a welt type rash bump on the outer crease of one eye yesterday, its not red. not too painful but tender & eyelid feels uncomf,not hard but swollen. took anti-allergic & applied hydrocortisone cream. is this allergy or insect bite?

Accepted Answer

: A bump on the face that is swollen could be an insect bite or less likely an allergic reaction.  Most importantly, if it doesn't resolve, if there is fever, redness, growth, please see a doctor as it could be a local infection.
