Yes: Yes it can and scratching the area adds to the problem  The dark pigmentation should subside within days or weeks after stopping hydrocortisone in most cases.

Irreversible: Typically the thinning of skin by high dose topical steroids is not reversible.  Also, hydrocortisone is not usually thought of as high potency.  It would be helpful to see a dermatologist for further evaluation.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Side effects associated with oral steroids include but are not limited to: mood swings, irritation of the stomach, weight gain, gastrointestinal intolerance, and increased blood sugars (if diabetic). Weight gain with steroids is mainly water weight and will be lost once stopped, however steroids make you hungry so if you eat a lot of unhealthy food, that weight will be more difficult to loose.

Yes, occasionally: Acne caused by hydrocortisone topically, would last as long as the medicine is used. Pl see attached link for details.

Itch without rashes: It looks like you have chronic pruritis without a specific skin disease. Make sure you see a doctor and that you don't have chronic liver/kidney/thyroid diseases and other etiologies that may cause itch like hiv, tumors, lymphomas, polycythemia... Topical steroid only helps if you have skin rashes due to inflammation. Moisturizer, capsaicin and otc allergy meds may help. Treatments may vary.

Dry Skin: Have your doctor write for Elidel (pimecrolimus) Cream which is anti -inflammatory but not a steroid. Since Elidel (pimecrolimus) Cream is not a steroid, it can be used every day.

No: Stopping the steroid does not cause flairs, but using it suppresses symptoms. Sun exposure will help and a good moisturizer with colloidal oatmeal can also improve things. You also should avoid antibacterial soap.

No but maybe: Hydrocortisone should decrease eye swelling.  I assume that you are using either a topical cream or Hydrocortisone pills.  Neither should cause eye swelling unless certain things occur:
1. The cream went into the eye itself and you are reacting not to Hydrocortisone but to a stabilizer or inactive ingredient
2. The oral steroids are causing you to retain fluid and therefore causing eye swelling.

Yes, steroid cream: Can cause hair growth as well as hair loss, thinning , redness & pigmentation of the skin. Best wishes !

Accepted Answer

It can help: Due to its antiinflammatory properties.  Anusol has a topical anesthetic and is usually for the gums and in combo may add some additional relief.  Oral pain meds, aleve or ibuprofin are also winners.  Consider MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) to prevent constipation which always makes hemmorroids worse.  Goog ole preperation h is a good, inexpensive combination.
