Stopping HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide): There are no acute withdrawal symptoms of stopping hydrochlorothiazide (hctz). You may gain some fluid weight, as it is a diuretic. Your potassium and magnesium levels may be higher, as hctz is known to lower them. Before you stop any medication prescribed by your physician, discuss it with him first.

Hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) and sodium: Hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) by its mechanism rids the body of sodium  and water  and reduces blood pressure in the process. 

If the craving is really bothersome, check with your doctor and check a sodium level. Its rare, but sometimes hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) can lower your sodium levels too much.

Some use 2x/day: Hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) is a mild diuretic most often used to treat hypertension. It is often used once daily but some use 2 times a day. So, it is ok to use 2x/day, but i would advise that you check with your doc to find out why you would need to use 2x/day, especially being your age at 24? More likely to have side effects from 2 vs 1 pill per day. So, consult doc. Good luck.

Not a good diuretic : Hydrochlorothiazide is not a very strong diuretic. It is mostly used for antihypertensive properties. Usually effect should be seen within the first couple of hours with increased urine output, although might not be very much increase.
