Not really because: Alternative medications have no safety profile and are not rigorously tested for safety by any agency. It has nothing to do with your blood pressure meds. If your goal is weight loss (usual reason why people want to take garcinia), there is no better method than a proper diet and regular exercise. Try cutting your food portions in half and see how that goes for a month. I'm sure you'll see results

They are different: Hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) is a mild diuretic that removes sodium from the body causing an increased volume of urine and lowers blood pressure by reducing the volume of 'salt water' in our circulatory system. Lisinopril inhibits a certain specialized chemical reaction in our bodies that leads to a reduced retention of sodium in our bodies but also a reduced tension on our blood vessels, thus lowering blood pressure.

: If by 2 weeks, her BP does not get down below 140/90, her med may need to be adjusted up. The optimal BP should be less than 130/80 after 3 months. She should lower salt intake and do exercise 30 minutes/day or one hour every other day. Her BP was very high so bring it down slowly is better than a steep reduction. Her medication regimen is about average in strength with the current doses.

my platelet count is very high (825). i'm taking 25mg teva-hydrochlorothiazide tablets & asa 8mg baby aspirin tablets. would these medications help lower it? i get tested every 3 months & it keeps rising. also, would a blood transfusion help?

: Hctz does not lower platelet count, neither do ASA and blood transfusion; however, ASA may be helpful with anti-platelet effect in the coagulation cascade. There are means (medications and procedure) for treating thrombocytosis (high platelet count) but you do not need it yet with the current number. Please do not worry much and continue to follow with your doctor(s).
