after being placed on her back to sleep, our 4.5 month old daughter has just started to turn onto her stomach and her side she can only roll comfortably onto her stomach and has only rolled onto her back a few times. what should we do?

: I always put them down on their back for the first year. Yet I don't fight them when they begin to roll over.The definition for crib death encompasses the first year, but by the time they start rolling the risk has dropped off considerably.Don't spend your nights re-positioning her , just accept that you did what you could to keep her as safe as possible.

right knee locks up in my sleep. i sleep on my stomach usually and when this happens i need help to roll over onto my back. the pain is excruciating ?

Knee joint  or muscl: The locking may be cartilage in the knee. Or could be muscular leg  cramps. You will need  an evaluation to be certain these  is not  an internal derangement of the knee

my husband has rectal bleeding,stomach pain,sleeping a lot and an enlarged prostrate.he has had a full range of blood tests.very worried wife.thanks?

Gastroenterologist: I don't think that blood tests alone would shed light on the cause of his symptoms. Rectal bleeding must be investigated to look for hemorrhoids, anal fissure, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulosis of the colon or the presence of a tumor. I recommend that he be evaluated by a gastroenterologist and colonoscopy may be advised.

Schedule: Sleep is critical to your health. Try to keep to a sleep wake schedule as much as possible and avoid electronic activity and overeating or excessive alcohol consumption for at least 2-3 hrs before trying to sleep. Look up relaxation techniques like soothing music, stretching, yoga etc,and keep a positive attitude. If problems persist seek a sleep specialist in your area.

Sleep: Many people can sleep comfortably on their stomach. However, sleeping on your stomach usually requires you to have your head turned to the side for hours & makes it difficult to keep the spine in a neutral position.

Abdominal discomfort: After ruling out pregnancy that too after 2 nd trimester,  and no associated diarrhea, it would most probably from excessive gas. Pay attention to type of food causing this problem, you may have mal absorption, most commonly to dairy products. Try some probiotic and lactaid and see the symptoms gets any better, if not have it checked out.

Pillows: Pillows can come in handy when trying to sleep on your back. Try putting one behind your knees. You can then put more pillows on either side of you or under both arms. There is no one great technique to sleeping on your back. You have to find what works for you and just be persistent. It may take some time to get used to sleeping on your back.

Try Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Most nyquil preparations contain dextromethorphan which can cause nausea. You could just take otc Diphenhydramine (benadryl) which is a sedating antihistamine, and will help with some of the symptoms as well as with sleep.
