my wife is suffering from a wart /papillom in her ear canal and complaining that she is having great deal of pain any time she touches it.what would be your consultation for that.

Wart in the ear: If she is suffering, why wait any longer? Get it taken care of. They are easy to remove and any ENT can do this for you and many Dermatologists (just ask when making the appointment as some do not feel comfortable working in the ears). The procedure takes less than a minute and is done in the office. Otherwise, Tylenol (acetaminophen) can be taken for discomfort until it is handled.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Wax and dirt can buildup and lessen your hearing ability without you recognizing it.  Some wax buildup is so thick that you may need to get a solution from your pharmacy to dissolve the wax.  Be careful and follow directions exactly to keep from puncturing your ear drum.

Go to MD: I don't think there is any way to safely dissolve it.  Go to the er or your pcp.

Your call: It may work its way out over time day or night. A  little mineral oil on the plug may help in time. Many GP's and all ENT docs would have special tweezers or forceps that can remove it safely &amp; verify the canal was not damaged.

Doctor can check: you could be having simple allergic reaction a heat pad on the ear and take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) from over the counter 
there is special ear drop but it required a Rx from a doctor
no improvement see your doctor he can make the right diagnosis and help you with the right treatment

Otitis externa: An ear canal can become irritated by vigorous cleaning, prolonged exposure to moisture,  and infection.  If the irritation is new, apply a solution of 50% hydrogen peroxide to the ear canal while laying on your side. If the irritation lasts longer than 1 week, see your GP as you may have a bacterial or fungal infection or allergic inflammation which need to be treated with prescription meds

Itchy ears,: Commonest is from dry canal skin,like dandruff,either from lack of wax,psoriasis,shampoo settling and drying in your canal,,avoiding Q tips,not letting in soap or shampoo,cover the ears when having your hair done,and ,seek help,in way of ear drops,

No: By ear canal, you mean ear drum?  The canal is the opening.  The amount of trauma required to push your ear drum into your brain would be devastating and short of a major, life threatening injury this really isn't something to worry about.

Too Ear-ly To Know: The sensory innervation of the ear canal is complex, so it's very unlikely that a nerve problem is causing your numbness.Also the fact that your symptom is"transient" is unusual.And it would be helpful to know if your numbness is a complete loss of feeling or some variant of that (tingling, decreased sensation, etc). Someone needs to look in there to see if something is stuck in there, or whatever

how do you keep a child's ear canal dry during bathing?

Why bother??: You can easily bathe baby without fretting about ears. If you are concerned about the water, a gentile wipe of the outer ear canal with a drier cloth will wick out any excess. Infants do not get middle ear infections from this exposure & I have never seen an infant with an outer ear infection from the practice in 3 decades.
