Check w/ dr.: Hives implies an allergic reaction.Celebrex (celecoxib) is also an anti inflammatory med.There may be some cross-over despite its different chemical make-up.I would check w/ your primary care physician before trying celebrex (celecoxib). Good luck!

Watch carefully: Celebrex (celecoxib) structurally is somewhat different (it is called a Cox 2 inhibitor ) from the traditional NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen or the Aspirin family.  Because of this difference you probably can tolerate Celebrex (celecoxib). Nonetheless, you should watch very closely for any signs of hives and if they were to occur then stop the Celebrex (celecoxib) right away

avoid all NSAIDs: I would urge you to avoid all nsaids if you are already allergic to asa and ibuprofen. Btw, I have never found salsalate to be very effective for anyone.

have ulcerative colitis. taking lialda for four years. can i take celebrex (celecoxib) for arthritis pain? i know i can't use aspirin or ibuprofen.

Yes for short time: If your IBD is in remission then, you can use Celebrex (celecoxib) for up to 14 days without risk to your IBD.  Otherwise, no there is a contraindication against the drug.

No: Like Celebrex (celecoxib), Motrin (ibuprofen) is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). They both can equally affect the kidneys negatively, but this is usually in older patients with less renal reserve. If you are 22 and have had some kidney injury from this, I suspect you have been taking Celebrex a long time. So stop Motrin. Your safer bet would be acetaminophen or tramadol.

Stick with cheap: Stick with advil or aleve . The over-the-counter forms are cheap. Celebrex (celecoxib) is prescription only and very expensive. They all have similar effectiveness.

Water retention: Any of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications can cause water retention.  They can also cause high blood pressure or interfere with blood pressure medications.

Celebrex (celecoxib): Because the chances to develop gastric discomfort/pain with Celebrex (celecoxib) is much lower and also because you can take it once or twice a day only, Celebrex (celecoxib) would be better.
