How often?: Depending on how often these occur it may be worthwhile to try suppressive therapy with an anti-viral like gancyclovir.

Not herpes: Oral herpes (cold sores) cannot persist a month and doesn't cause a "flesh colored" or white bump. You may well have had oral herpes, but this bump is something different. See a doctor about it if you remain concerned.

Try lysine: A supplement called lysine suppresses herpes outbreaks in most people.  Also avoid whole wheat bread and nuts.  Do not take if you have phenylketonuria.  There are also prescription antivirals available.

Not cold sores.: Cold sores are typically groups of painful blisters, so doubt that it's that. May be having an allergic reaction to something. Try 1% Hydrocortisone cream. If that doesn't work, let a dermatologist have a direct look at it.

im getting zits around my lips and they are not cold sores. any suggestion on how to treat/prevent them.?

Zits: If they are true zits, you want to see a dermatologist who will treat them with an antibiotic of the tetracycline family. These drugs will discolor teeth in formation of fetuses of pregnant women or young children's teeth that are still forming. Keeping immaculate hygiene-keeping your face clean, and not eating too fatty foods will also help.

i had a bump on my bottom lip i bit it open it turrned red then a circle came iin the center couple days pass now i have alot of cold sores i think they have very small black dots and red bumps are in the inside of my mouth on the bottom lip?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. If these are cold sores, these will get better, if the lesions do not improve in a day or two, it would be prudent to see a doctor.

Possible but unlikel: Hi Roy. It's possible for someone to shed the herpes virus and be asymptomatic. People with oral herpes may secrete the virus 2% to 9% of the time when they are not having sores. That being said, if they are asymptomatic and secreting the virus, the amount of virus being shed is much less. You can be tested for infection.  I would recommend knowing your sex partner And both of you testing  for STD

Comfortable: Do anything that makes you comfortable.  It takes about 2 weeks to go away no matter what you seem to do.  However check with your pharmacy for a few items that may make you more comfortable - remember that they generally do not shorten the 2 week time.

Accepted Answer

Yes: But it is not as if all the lip will be swolen.  It will be swollen around the lesion plus the discomfort makes it feel that it is larger than it really is.
