Not usually: But have good history, probably an echo and cardiology baseline to be sure no valve, or congenital issues.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Many women will begin having occasional contractions after 22 to 26 weeks.  A few contractions a day should not be concerning and is quite common.  However, more than 3 or 4 contractions an hour for more than an hour before 34 weeks gestation warrants evaluation for premature labor.

Not quite: Generally, if you are at or near full term (40wks/ close to your due date) with an uncomplicated pregnancy, you should wait until your contractions are consistently 5 min apart before you go to the hospital. If your water breaks, you have heavy bleeding, or if your baby is not moving, you should go to the hospital immediately. Good luck and congrats!

Common: They are common, never normal altho typically benign. And yes, they can go undetected many times.

Get help: Please see your OB/PCP asap. There is possibility of incomplete miscarriage and you need medical and emotional support.

Yes: PACs are simply isolated early extra beats that originate from the upper chambers of the heart (above the bundle of his).  Some make it through to the ventricle, some are blocked.  When they occur consecutively causing the ventricle to contract faster then that situation is said to be PSVT.  Some self terminate- some need meds or electrical cardioversion and ablation. They can be seen separately.

with my first birth i had v.strong contractions for approx 24 hours before i dilated. why? and will it happen this time too?

Almost always: Your 2nd goes much faster assuming the baby is not a lot larger.

Sounds: Suspicious for a kidney stone.  I would recommend you see your doctor or a good urgent care facility for exam and urinalysis.

im 35 weeks 4days today i am 1 cm, soft and short. lots of random contractions that make you stop. this is baby #4 2 out of the 3 have been preemies does this mean pack my bag and have it at the door or do i still have time?

Have your bag ready: If contractions get more regular do not dawdle.  You could progress quickly.  On the positive side the baby should be a good size and do well even if it came now.

Baby coming soon?: This being your third pregnancy, increases the probability that your baby will come sooner than later. I would go ahead and call the doctor that has been doing your prenatal care or whoever is on call.
