does taking cefspan antibiotic for 5 days affect your immune system ? or the course has to be long term for it to affect immune system?

Accepted Answer

: Cefixime  is an antibiotics but can cause significant side effects including worsening of kidneys, liver functions , C. difficile
 Infection and Agranulocytosis and these can make person more vulnerable to infections. It has been tried in ulcerative colitis to kill large bowel bacteria but indiscriminate use was not rewarded mostly.side effects increase with duration of use. Hope it helps.

i have had recurring impetigo for the 3rd time. the first time i was given a topical and oral antibiotic..then i was put on another oral antibiotic that i just finished a few days ago. do i need to be worried about my immune system?

: The worries about immune system would not help, it would only make it worse even if you have immune system dysfunction. I would suggest that you pay attention more to daily hygiene and probably use of antiseptic or learn bleach bath to reduce chances of recurring impetigo.

Not too contagious.: Practice hand hygiene and wash your hands often with soap and water after any contact with contaminated material until the problem has resolved. The sanitizing gel does not kill C difficile.  By the way, you can still hug him .

Repeat UTI's: I would suggest you see a urologist to arrive at a diagnosis of what is causing your having repeat uti's. One of the causes is an anatomical problem of your urinary system. You will need a renal ultrasound and perhaps a xray of your kidneys, ureters and bladder. Have your urine cultured to make sure your doctor is giving you an effective antibiotic. How do you know your immune system is weak?

Accepted Answer

Yes: It never hurts to take probiotic with antibiotic( may reduce the side effect of diarrhea) . An injection of steroid  is not going to suppress your immune system .

Alleviate the stress: Have a regular healthy diet, exercise regularly and get plenty of necessary sleep and rest.

Fruits & veggies: Eating real food, that has as little processing as possible, will help your body get important nutrients to help it heal and prevent infection. Aim for at least 5-9 servings of fruits & veggies every day.

Try to buy fresh or frozen rather than canned. 

Eat lots of dark, leafy greens and brightly colored fruits & veggies

also get enough sleep & regular exercise & enjoy friendships & volunteering.

This is called the "hygiene hypothesis" - that living in too clean an environment leads to more allergies.

I wish there was: There really isn't any substitute for optimal health.   Proper nutrition and vitamin supplements if not eating well, exercise and adequate sleep.  Avoid smoking, reduce stress and alcohol.  The stuff you already know.

Unrelated: allergies are rather due to over reactive immune system, boosting your immunity would help warding off an infection, although there is no such thing as boosting immunity, you're either immune competent or immune compromised, maintaining good immunity necessitates maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as simple as that, so good sleep, healthy diet, lots of fruits and vegetables, fresh air and exercise
