Non steroidal spray: Try using Astelin (azelastine) which is a non steroidal spray.

Histamine release: triggered by anxiety is possible, just like some people will get hives after stressful news.

Look for a cause: First, looking for a potential cause - and removing it could solve the problem. Dust, mites, seasonal changes can cause these symptoms. If that doesn't help, steroid nasal inhalers could provide some relief. Do not us over the counter decongestants as they could worsen the problem. 
Ear nose and throat specialist will be able to guide you through this step wise and determine the right treatment.

: Difficult to tell. I would try both steamy shower and vaporizer by bed. See which works best for you. Allergies involved??

Swollen turbinates: Turbinates are shelf-like projections in the nose; like turbines, they move the air through the nose slower, allowing it to be moistened, warmed, and filtered. Turbinates are bone covered by tissue that "grows" or swells in response to allergies or irritants. The tissue sometimes gets so swollen & scarred that it blocks the nose and prevents air from passing, requiring surgical reduction.

: I cannot here but if you use a nose speculum and a light and u know what normal looks like you might be able to see it.  Best to have someone who knows the nose to look.

: It may because it has some anti-inflammatory effect but we usually do not recommend ibuprofen for that. Inhaled nasal steroid such as flonase or nasonex (OTC) should be used.

Depends on strength: if you use normal saline strength like 1/2 teaspoonful to 8oz of water it will just flush the nose. If you used hypertonic strength like 3/4 teaspoonful to 8oz water it will decongest turbinates by osmotic pressure

See ENT: for endoscopic exam. An ENT should be able to differentiate between polyps and turbinates with a proper exam.
